Most of the internet used to be like this. This is actually the default, it took companies enclosing the internet and adding weird, soul-killing incentives to make people behave the way they do now. In a way, there is truly nothing special about Wikipedia except that it survived longer.
“Wikipedia is this economic anomaly. In many ways, it’s sort of magical that people will just volunteer without explicit economic incentives to create artifacts that are meant to share knowledge with everyone in the world”

There’s so much more I’d love to say, but I think this is the best condensed version of it. I’m still so inspired and hope I could tell stories on that level someday.

About 3 more rounds of revisions pending, but I’ll say my top 10 isn’t moving at all, and top 25 is mostly locked in

holy shit that's a good deal
I can confirm the PBS Passport is a very good deal for $5/month or $2.50/month if you do yearly.

Thousands of hours of top notch content. NOVA is great. The new Ken Burns doc on Leonardo da Vinci is excellent.

Remember, anything can feel like a soulless obligation - even things you love - if you don't take breaks, refuel your creativity or do other things. You can't strong-arm creativity or hit your head against a wall hoping inspiration will happen. Stop. Reset. Love yourself. Repeat.

The first time Charlie Chaplin used his voice in a film, he wielded it to forcefully condemn the rising forces of fascism around the globe.

Will we listen to his words today?

re: generative AI

I have finally fully and accurately explained my problem with how it’s marketed and used.

And now, you can use it, too.

Literally, the enemy is capitalism. All of this discourse about being undervalued or burnt out, its all just because of this stupid machine we're in. God forbid we work towards a system where oligarchs dont control all of the money and all media/social media.

I had SO many type design inspirations, but special shout-outs to Typodermic Fonts, House Industries, Rocky & Bullwinkle, Paper Mario, and Adventureland Resort in Des Moines, IA.

You guys have no idea how stoked I am for Deltarune.

Game's already great so far, but man - seeing fanart and hearing fan voices for it is a joy corporations could never replicate.

More media needs to be as WEIRD, especially these days with AI sanitizing and amalgamating everything.

Worked on making an intro cutscene for the train boss for today's #NightmareKart dev thread!

The actual cutscene itself is a placeholder, but the actual functionality to load and play it (complete with a cutscene skip) is in, meaning that a proper cutscene can easily be added in later :)

Then stop shoving it in our @sagaftra.org contracts. Actors hate this shit too.
In recent weeks, video game publishers Take-Two and EA both warned investors about potential "reputational" risks to the use of gen-AI in games. It's a problem that all game companies will soon need to confront: Players hate genAI.
