Long Covid is no fun.
„evidence increasingly demonstrates the presence of physical impairments. It is within this biomedical framework—not through outdated psychosomatic paradigms—that meaningful medical advances can be expected. „
The BMJ has published our response to the opinion piece by Miller et al..

“The solution that Miller et al. propose—the interpretation of ME/CFS as "biopsychosocial"—is in fact itself a major burden for ME/CFS sufferers.“

Biopsychosocial approaches to ME/CFS provide neither a cure nor hope.

Reluctance by some to acknowledge the airborne transmission of airborne pathogens, is because of the implications for governments, businesses, and healthcare services: an example being the failure of some to recognize that SARS-CoV-2 transmission is also airborne.

Fascinating ... but not surprising.
American political interference of Public Health is what killed international Public Health in 2019.

56 % der Befragten haben ihre Restgesundheit verloren, weil die Medizin lieber ideologisch an das (bio)psychosozialen Modell *glaubt*, anstatt dem Stand der Wissenschaft zu folgen.

Where does this rank in our FearPorn-O-Meter of Public Health crisis? It's a nothing burger.

We're convinced if America is prepared to deny #LongCOVID is #AirborneAIDS and refer to #TexasMooFlu as #MildBleedingFromTheEyes then there's room on the plate next to the potatoes for #MildMadCow. 22/

#pwLC, #pwMECFS: Do you also crave salt when experiencing #PEM?
My go-tos are ham, feta cheese and kalamata olives. And electrolytes of course.
Why is it so? What happens in the body??

It was a mistake to think that once the vulnerable with underlying illnesses ("useless eaters") had been reaped ("the price paid for progress"), the problem would burn itself out without impacting economic productivity.

Just because things are bad
Does not mean we should let them get worse
Just because things may get worse
Does not mean we can not make things better
But things will only get better
If we don't resign ourselves to worse

Not surprising for me.
With the #LongCovid crisis growing bigger every day, GPs will also have to accept that this is a real, somatic illness.
Many long COVID patients adjust to slim recovery odds as world moves on.

"The best window for recovery is in the first 6 months after getting COVID-19... People whose symptoms last between 6 months and 2 years are less likely to fully recover"

Unfriendly reminder that pandemics historically accelerate the rise of fascism not merely because of "economic angst," but also because they make eugenics popular, so if you're not working with disabled activists rn you're doing it wrong

„“You can’t hurry recovery from PEM,” goes the old saying, “no, you just have to wait.”

True, and it’s almost impossible to have „good thoughts“ when you know a crash can lead to a permanent lowered baseline.
For the first time, I’ve published one of my personal essays outside the paywall. It’s a bit scary, but I wanted to share how severe my Long COVID has become.

„Feverish cows in respiratory distress producing trickles of milk. Dying cats. Enough dead barn pigeons and blackbirds to suggest a mass poisoning. Living birds with twisted necks, their heads tilted skyward.“

This is what hell looks like. The next hidden pandemic is around the corner.

In the never-ending war of us vs pathogens, we’re astronomically outnumbered and always destined to lose. The best appraoch has always been to avoid infection, not to treat it.

Crazy, crazier, Belgium:

Until now, children affected by chickenpox were required to stay at home but
“This regulation not only disrupted the education of the affected child but also posed significant challenges to their parents” -> now they can go to school infected 😱
