At #SfN? Check out super talented graduate student Esther's poster on how acute alcohol modulates cell specific in vivo cortical activity. You can also congratulate her on recently defending her Masters thesis!!

Following up: searching for the distribution of estrogen receptors in the brain, I realized the Allen Brain Atlas is male only. How is it possible that something this fundamental is still missing?
It's 2025, and there's apparently no female mouse atlas.
Please, tell me I'm wrong.

🚨🚨 Attention: NSF and NIH grantees!

DOJ announced yesterday a "Civil Rights Fraud Initiative", which amplifies the changed NIH/NSF policies like no boycotts on Israel. www.justice.gov/opa/pr/justi...

🤢 Encourages "whistleblowers" by dangling they may get "a portion of the monetary recovery"
🚨🚨 Alarming NSF policy update

By accepting an NSF award, an institution now must say it's:

1. Not engaging in boycotts of Israel (yes really)

2. Not advancing or promoting DEI in violation of anti-discrimination laws

Announced via a footnote today: nsf-gov-resources.nsf.gov/files/gc1-ma...

I am a proud HHMI Gilliam Fellow alumn. The HHMI funded me at a critical time in my career - a real inflection point that made me realize that I had a place and future in science. I always looked to the HHMI as a safety net to those historically excluded by academia, 1/4

You look at science (or at least talk of it) as some sort of demoralizing invention of man, something apart from real life, and which must be cautiously guarded and kept separate from everyday existence. But science and everyday life cannot and should not be separated.

🚨 NIH sent out another data call, this time for projects "related to any form of censorship at all or directing people to believe one idea over another related to health outcomes… e,g., any contracts to promote COVID vaccine uptake," I'm told.

These data calls have recently preceded terminations.

I love seeing all the people turn out, just wish more of the science rally photos being shared had alt text. If you care about science, if you care about how the public engages with science, then you should also care about how information is communicated, it's all part of it, too. #StandUpForScience

I beg my science colleagues to speak with the media about what's happening now.

When I was given the opportunity, I spoke with Nature about HHMI massive cut. I am an immigrant on a working visa, and I am not a professor. Anyone can talk. Silence in the face of injustice is injustice in action.
