Today marks my final day as head of AFP's Africa fact-checking unit. After five years of fighting disinformation with an incredible team, I'm taking a break before returning to a new role within the digital investigations dept in May. @forbidden-stories.bsky.social last week hosted an event uniting journalists who carry on the investigations of killed, jailed or threatened reporters. The sense of defiance was palpable in the face of crumbling peace and reason.

Why would Meta bother to tell the public *which US states* its trust and safety team will now be based, if not to send a not so subtle that the corporation's political stance is now more welcoming to Texas' "values" than California's?
