Part of our "Thanksgiving" day was spent at Mercy Hot Springs Resort looking for Long-eared owls. @nvrnotbirding and I, dipped on those, but we had one Great-horned owl, seven Barn owls, and a California Thrasher!

We went on a quick day trip up the mountain to South Lake Tahoe, California to see this Barred Owl. There is some controversy over these owls coming into California, because they feed on smaller birds including other owls and they are taking out populations of some native species. #owls
