I am here to say vaccines are awesome because guess what Denmark is close to completely eliminating the two most dangerous HPV strains (serotype 16 and 18) and with the cervical cancer.I think that is bloody AMAZING!!!!

Denmark close to wiping out leading cancer-causing HPV strains after vaccine roll-out
A nationwide study suggests infections with human papillomavirus (HPV) types 16 and 18 have been virtually eliminated since vaccination began in 2008 – protecting even unvaccinated women.

Does anyything that sedates a patient actually prevent delirium, or are we simply masking symptoms of hyperactive delirium?
Postoperative delirium is a common complication following cardiac surgery.

This Bayesian network meta-analysis of RCTs assessed the effect of pharmacological interventions.

It found dexmedetomidine with melatonin was the most effective.

As right-wing oligarchs were buying up mainstream and social media, the mistake everyone else made was thinking that these purchases were based on a normal assessment of value. Remember when Elon Musk “overpayed” for Twitter?

They understood that controlling the message and narrative is priceless.
Make no mistake, everything that’s happening in the United States is being significantly enabled by the right wing oligarch capture of media.

Every other country needs to do everything possible to keep that from happening where they are.

Including protecting the CBC from Poilievre here in Canada.

We did an editorial for anesthesia on the new meta analysis on the incidence and outcome of non-operative hip fracture management. Surgery should often be a part of the palliative pathway.
Too unfit not to have surgery: is non-operative care for hip fracture patients a viable option?

Almost all Nobel Prizes are awarded for work that is exploratory, or absolutely basic science with no obvious commercial or medical benefit.

You cannot predict where advancements come from, so you have to invest in science and scientists.

Targeted (corporate) science investment will never do this.
Reminder: Nobel-prize winning PCR (1983), used in basically all genetic tech today, was only possible because of extremophile bacterium discovered in 1964 in Yellowstone funded by a small ~$80k NSF grant with no obvious application at the time. #science 🧪

What should we call it when the number of meta-analyses start exceeding the number of RCTs performed?

Meta-analytic incontinence?
Meta-analytic diarrhea?
(Since these are mostly 💩)
Meta-analytic overflow

Any other suggestions? @mikejohansenmd.medsky.social

Great editorial by Joshi in the EJA, recounting the current litterature on perioperative glucocorticoids. It gives an overview of the line of recent research from our group, with the works of Nielsen and Springborg on high-pain responders as well as Cihoric´s on emergency laparotomy. #AnSky #SurgSky

I agree - there is no almost no difference between regular and RSI - especialy when you just use prop/remi for both without NMB in most cases.
A long overdue (but topical), nuanced and thorough discussion of "RSI" whose final conclusion I happen to entirely agree with. Well done @sthjournalclub.bsky.social
Editorial: Rapid sequence induction: a modern-day example of Theseus' Paradox?

Stept and Safar described ‘rapid induction/intubation’ in 1970.

PUMA recently issued a consensus statement on RSI.

Let's compare.

It's the surgical inflammation, not the depth of anaesthesia......
Perioperative neurocognitive disorders #POCD are common in older adults. Extracellular vesicles from peripheral surgical trauma may be a signalling mechanism causing neurological changes that could underlie POCD www.bjanaesthesia.org/article/S000...

I am determined to get AnSky and MedSky resuscitated.
Nothing better than our old favourite, the VL vs DL debate.
Thanks to @sethina.bsky.social for the idea.
Comes on guys let’s all have our say.
Oh I am right though 😂
Ok @sethina.bsky.social and @chrimesy.com let’s get this Easter party going!!
I only use VL for intubation, every single time now.
I am not sticking my face near anyone’s mouth.
It’s better for engagement and DL is dead IMO.
Even the dreadful McGrath is better than DL.

An incredible discrepancy between the massive funding and the lack of meaningful innovation....
Now here's something a bit different!
