It wasn't until I re-listened to And Justice for All that it occurred to me the possibility that the album, with its flatness, and paper thin drums, vocals, guitars, and clear absence of bass may have been not so much a hazing on Jason, but a farewell to Cliff.

I'm racking my brain trying to think of a merger / acquisition that benefited anyone other than the shareholders.
At best, it lost domestic jobs and created crappier products (Luxottica - Ray Ban / Oliver Peoples / etc. or InMusic - Moog.) At worst, it also cost lives (Boeing - McDonnell Douglas.)
