In case you’re wondering, the surviving-Nazi hero-worship is in full swing over on Shitter. Calling them patriots, brave men, courageous, defenders etc.

Raising the bar on game show entertainment one literal masterpiece at a time.

I cannot emphasize enough how true & real this is.

In almost anywhere on the political spectrum you ID with or major issue, there’s probably a bot/troll operation to encourage your rage and vitriol.

And how/where that rage gets directed, esp understandable rage, is what they are out to influence.
People on this app get really angry every time I point out that social media manipulation is a real phenomenon that we are all stewing in and that’s having real world consequences and I’m sure part of that is engagement farmers who do that manipulation not liking people talking about it

America is beautiful, contradictory, unfinished. I am proud of our country even as we constantly strive to make it better, to protect and deepen our democracy, to fulfill its promise for each and every person who calls it home.

Happy Independence Day. No Kings in America.

-A living wage
-Guaranteed healthcare
-The right to join a union
-The right to vote
-The right to choose when, how, and with whom you start a family
-The right for you and your family to live free from gun violence

These are the foundations of real freedom.

Hey I have to tell you something

removing “additives” from food is not an acceptable trade off for fascism and ignoring the work scientists have already done doesn’t make you a free thinker, just a contrarian

Especially if you're on the fence about it, protest today. Fascism is isolating and lonely. Its very goal is to make you feel like you're the only person unwilling to accept a cult of personality. On days like today you fully realize there are more of us than there are them. You will feel better.

Step 1: remove all of these people from their jobs

Step 2: force other people into their jobs (disabled, neurodivergent, welfare, unhoused, etc)

Step 3: pat themselves on the back for “saving the American workforce” after realigning the middle and lower class

Step 4: more tax cuts for the rich
You really can’t understand the Trump era without constantly reminding yourself how shockingly stupid it is.
Trump just admitted that his mass deportations are bad for farmers and the economy, and crucially, also admitted that workers who are getting deported are "almost impossible to replace." That's a massive repudiation of MAGA ideology:

“A vote for Todd Clorox is a vote for a clean fresh start!”
Government by and for people who drink bleach.
SCOOP

For years an FDA warning about the dangers of chlorine dioxide helped prevent it going mainstream.

Bleachers spent years calling for it to be removed

In May, it disappeared

Now, the bleachers think RFK will make all their dreams come true

If anyone hasn’t seen the video, I recommend watching it. The footage clearly shows the officer spotting the journalist, leveling his weapon and firing it at her. It’s not in “the heat of the moment” and she was doing a report at the time.
Passive voice obfuscates responsibility for actions.

That's why journalists should avoid it 99% of the time.

Like this lede: She "was hit." But it was an officer who shot her, not a rogue rubber bullet that autonomously took flight and slammed into her.

My favorite interaction on Nextdoor: watching most of an affluent southern neighborhood dog-pile on to a property that had fallen into disrepair, only to end when the adult child of the disabled veteran living there informed the rake-wielding mob that their father had been DYING ALONE in that house.
To me, Nextdoor is the gentrification website where people who like to surveil & criminalize their neighbors go, so I'm baffled at people who use it being baffled by what's on it because I thought that's what they were on there for.

I rage against systems, against ideologies, against organizations of hate, against charlatans and demagogues.

But I give grace to individual, everyday people as much as I can (sometimes against my worst impulses). Because it's the only way I know to keep my humanity amidst so much hate and cruelty.
One of the most depressing things about the Trump era is how nakedly Americans derive glee and joy from the suffering of those they perceive as their political enemies.

And it's infected people of all political stripes.

Trump is remaking many of us, on the left and right, in his own image.

Ashli Babbitt’s rehabilitation is so nuts. She was literally breaking and entering into a place she knew to be protected by armed guards. She was shot while being the first to climb through the broken window. Who DOESN’T expect to be shot when storming the breach? She was literally the forlorn hope!

The entire profession of journalism in this country is hip-deep in a reckoning it is utterly unprepared to deal with, in large part because over the last 25 years rapacious owners have systematically decimated the entire human infrastructure of the profession as it existed for generations in the US.
Sure, let the freelancer take the fall when literally no one else thought it was wise to look over the freelancer’s work.

Will we get smarter?
Ah, sorry. No. We choose the option with no robots AND no autonomy.
To be fair, Asimov predicted once the gibberish generators render everything around us meaningless and we forget how to do things that we’ll banish them to the fields and to other planets.
Thinking about how science fiction used to be all about how “in the future, information will be the only real currency” and yet in the future we’ve got it’s basically “information doesn’t mean shit, gibberish generators will take your job and render everything around you meaningless”
