She always believed in me.

Definitely channeling her energy today!!

What lessons did you learn from your mentors that you took with you or abandoned as you moved into being a mentor?

The Story
There was a time I thought hustle was the point — the 80-hour weeks, the back-to-back deadlines, the proof that I was “serious.”
That time is now buried somewhere around 2019, right next to my tolerance for instant coffee and unnecessary meetings.

Idk why I disappeared from this platform.

I think life as an associate chair took over.

But an update.

My 3 kids are in 3 different schools and I’m still doing all the things.

I started a blog so you can follow along

Anyone else bogged down with too many invitations to collaborate when all the set really wanted was someone to carry them?

Especially early on in the tenure track?

Here’s another one.

Were you taught you always had to be visible to be counted as working?
☕ CC2: The Visibility Trap
Academe says “be visible.” I say, “be strategic, mija.” Quiet work counts—even when it doesn’t post well.

When did we start spending $50 on undies for our kids?

Jurassic World at that…

Times have changed from when we were excited to have the $5 pack that listed the days of the week!!
August 9, 2025 at 2:00 PM
I remember the days (even last year) when I would wait for an invitation to review manuscripts.

Now I get multiple a day multiple times a week…

Does this mean I have leveled up?

So it finally happened…

I was looking at the profile of K1 when they enter standing next to me and for a split second I saw myself!

It’s happened to me before when I
Saw my mom in the mirror.

Now I’m seeing me in my cold…

Creepy…

Every time I start making big edits to my grad students proposal she starts to have anxiety…

Poor thing…

But she’s done such a phenomenal job with her synthesis of the literature!!

Super proud!!
