This weekend's bit of #gamedev: I took photos of my hands and hastily traced them in Aseprite. The idea is that they'll be Night in the Woods-style grabby hands for assembling the artwork in my art student game.

Well, a bit of gamedev is happening today, at least. First time in about six months, I think. I added a basic inventory to the game and also ported it from Godot 3.5 to 4.3. Here's a picture of the main map linkage in the 4.3 editor.

I should also get back to working on my games. It's been a rough year and I haven't had a lot of space in my head to do complicated things like that. I'm taking the next couple of weeks off, though, so hopefully I'll be able to reset my brain and focus a bit!

Bluesky suddenly got really busy, I wonder why!!

I've been dead quiet for months because it has not been a good year. I'll probably write about that another time. At any rate, I'm getting back to the point where I'll want to post more stuff, so look out for that.

More background design, based on my old art college. Bonus points if you know where this is!

Experimenting with simple, stylised background design. As usual, keeping it minimal has a price, including "it's hard to have doors on side and front walls without doing some weird projection or exit markers".

Also check out this initial stab at a walk animation. Pretty sure legs do not work that way (the upper and lower body sync is different).

Here's another set of character sprites. I think there's potential to make something with these. Definitely need to figure out how best to separate them from the background and each other, though.

Can't seem to work on actual games at the moment, but I've been playing around with sprite design. Not sure how readable these characters are for other people, but sticking to black and white makes them quick to prototype, at least.

Time to try to get more out of Bluesky. It's already looking better now there are a lot more artists on it! Also, I just discovered @deck.blue, which looks like a promising equivalent to TweetDeck.
