I wear glasses now.
Reading these two series one after another or at the same time is a real delight. I can imagine they are 2 huge empires *just* separated by a bit of space-time. They are different stories, but somehow complement each other really nicely.

No matter what you eat for the holidays, please never:

- comment on how much someone is eating
- comment on how little someone is eating
- comment on someone eating

This can be a major trigger for people with eating disorders. Plus it’s none of your business. Thanks!

y'know, if tech companies weren't so fired up to call every single thing "AI" it would be a lot easier to distinguish "ML spam filter that is well-sandboxed and tuned on your emails" from "giant context and IP-eroding foundation model that makes people paranoid and unhappy"
since the "google is now training gemini on your email contents" thing keeps bumping around here: it's _not happening_. I say this not to defend google but because I know a lot of people that have broken their filtering and made their lives much more annoying from sheer misinformation.
The malwarebytes Google opting-your-emails-into-ai-training thing is not true. The post is based on one bad tweet.

I know anti-tech lamenting is a Bluesky core principle, but please use the same judgement you would for any other clickbait.

Driving a 2WD vehicle on I-70 in a storm? New traction law requires chains or anti-slip devices
During storms, CDOT officials can declare the traction law “activated” on any state highway. Along the I-70 mountain corridor through Dotsero, the law remains in effect September through May.

It's always weird to me how there are like these completely different subsets of critically important factual information that most white folk in the US just don't know. 🤷🏿‍♂️

Because these white folk don't know any Black folk, and don't ask any questions.
Way back when, mayor Pete's reform-minded chief of police, Daryl Boykins, recorded some of his officers making vile racist statements. So Buttigieg fired... the police chief.🤡

Boykins was the 1st Black police chief in city history, and was building trust with Black folk.

But it gets worse...

Did aliens watch 1950s nuclear tests? ‘Maybe,’ studies say
OK, it’s probably not aliens, but two new studies confirm 1950s sky flashes were real, reflective objects, and their appearance statistically correlated with nuclear tests.

that teeny tiny smudge next to Merope is Barnard's Merope Nebula. IC349. difficult, but possible to observe visually. I've used a specially prepared eyepiece with an occulting bar in a 13" reflector.

You'll ignore this, but every time you tweet angrily about crap like that Nuzzi piece you're confirming NYT editors' intuitions/incentivizing more of it. The entire intellectual/journo model here is, "Does this person get people angry? Yes? OK they're provocative/get talked about. Write about her."

It appears there's another chance to see the aurora borealis over Colorado tonight, but tonight's chance is more conditional for two reasons:

1) Cloud cover may mess it up. Less cloud cover east of Denver.

2) The timing of the next CME. Best chance appears closer to sunset tonight (5-8p).
