I can’t believe it - after years of advocacy, exclusionary zoning has ended in Cambridge.

We just passed the single most comprehensive rezoning in the US—legalizing multifamily housing up to 6 stories citywide in a Paris style

Here’s the details 🧵

Thanks Kyle! From a quick read on the DOE study, they do find a v small increase in global emissions from the shock using the GCAM model (relative to my v small decrease in emissions). Looking forward to unpack their results, but we do seem to agree on the existence of slack in LNG markets

While substitution patterns are uncertain, they must be accounted for, something I want to see in the new DOE study.

The best research I know on this is @constanzaabuin.bsky.social's JMP. She finds expanding US LNG exports lowers global GHGs through more US renewables and less foreign coal. 3/n

While we wait for DOE's LNG export report, I will note here that determining the global GHG emissions impact from expanded US LNG exports is quite complicated and not at all obvious. 1/

I wrote an intro to the literature on simple mechanisms. Out now in the JEP.

It’s a short (14-page) plain-language summary, designed to get students to the research frontier. 📈📉
