It’s a pity that Hitchcock never made a film adaptation of any book by Helen McCloy. They shared so many themes (doppelgängers galore). And why hasn’t anyone made a film from McCloy’s excellent, spooky *Through a Glass, Darkly*?

Some years ago, my cousin—who is spookily perceptive about me—out of the blue asked me if I wanted to be a priest. I was going through my first religious phase at the time and said yes, I do, but I can’t because I also would like to get married.

WATCH: Stephen Colbert, Lifelong Catholic, on Hearing a Female Priest Celebrate the Eucharist
Much like Pope Francis, the great love Stephen Colbert has for the Catholic Church does not preclude a thoughtful, creative examination of Catholic tradition.

On the anniversary of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s death, a fascinating (to me, at least) fact: He played on a cricket team alongside J.M. Barrie, A.A. Milne, H.G. Wells, P.G. Wodehouse, G.K. Chesterton, E.W. Hornung, and Rudyard Kipling.

My grandmother, one of the best people I know, is not doing well. It has been going on for a few months, a rough few months, now, but it’s gotten worse recently and she had a terrible night last night. If you’re the praying type, please pray a few words for her.

A constantly superb season (series, Jason) of a constantly hilarious show. I’m sad to see this cast go.
All good things come to an end, but still lots of time for Jason to destroy the rest of the house.

The final #Taskmaster of the series kicks off at 9 of the clock.

I just read a blog post that says, in passing, that the 1974 *Murder on the Orient Express* is “pleasant but not at all moving.”

I’m not the biggest fan of the film—I mostly dislike Albert Finney’s Poirot and think the pacing goes slack halfway through—but as a kid I loved it and found it moving.

I just read something that said that, as a boy, Peter Cushing fell in love with the Sherlock Holmes stories and characters, and I wondered, what is it about the stories that inspires that love? The same thing happened to me—and, I know, many others.
