Republicans expecting mass defections on Epstein vote
Republicans are bracing for a significant chunk of the conference to vote for Rep. Ro Khanna’s (D-Calif.) and Rep. Thomas Massie’s (R-Ky.) Epstein file disclosure bill once it lands on the House floor. GOP leadership aides believe dozens of Republicans will vote it, possibly 100 or more, according to five people granted anonymity to speak candidly. Democrats pushing the petition publicly predicted that Republicans would rush to support the measure once it hit the floor. Rep. Don Bacon (R-Neb.) said earlier Wednesday that he’d vote in favor of a bill demanding the Justice Department release files related to Jeffrey Epstein, but expressed confidence in the House Oversight Committee’s work in releasing information related to the case. “I think it’s a little bit of a false hope that’s going to provide these great results,” Bacon told MSNBC about the discharge petition. “It’s still got to work its way through the Senate and the president. But we’re already getting a lot of results.” Rep. Tim Burchett (R-Tenn.) also said he’d vote for the measure when it comes to the House floor. “Sure I’d support it, absolutely,” he said in a brief interview. “Unless there’s some reason not to. I don’t see any reason not to.”

The Trump White House overt overtures to Lauren Boebert seems to have backfired as multiple Republicans switch to Yes on discharge petition to force vote on the release of the Epstein files.

Trump is a liar. Tear gassing kids in peaceful neighborhoods makes no one safer.

He cannot steal credit from our violence prevention and law enforcement efforts that have reduced crime for four years straight — long before his masked agents showed up. www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news...
DHS takes credit for crime being down in Chicago. Data shows that was happening before they arrived.
Immigration officials on Tuesday said a drop in crime numbers was thanks to their work. Police data show the decrease was taking place before federal agents arrived in the city.

A leader would not have lost eight colleagues tonight. This happened because you let it happen or because you’ve totally lost control of the caucus in one of the most important moments since you’ve been Democratic leader. Either way, it’s on you. You need to step down. We need someone who can lead.
Democrats have been fighting for months to address America's healthcare crisis

For the millions who will lose coverage
For people with cancer who won't get the care they need
For working families who can't afford to pay $25K more a year for healthcare

We will keep fighting

Chuck Schumer is either allowing eight of his colleagues to be the sin eaters who take the blame for passing this shutdown deal, or he’s genuinely powerless to hold his conference together. Either way, he should be out of leadership tomorrow morning.

Exactly this. Either you are calling for Chuck Schumer to step down - immediately - or you are complicit.

That includes you, @markey.senate.gov.
The coordinated nature of this—none are facing voters in 2026—means that either Schumer approved it or failed in his job as Senate Majority Leader to stop it.

Dems voting "no" get zero credit until they demand a change in leadership. Schumer out as Leader, Durbin out as Whip.
so currently defectors are:

Kaine (2030)
Shaheen (Retiring)
Hasan (2028)
Fetterman (2028)
Durbin (Retiring)
CCM (2028)
Rosen (2030)
King (2030)

Ro Khana is right. Chuck Schumer is not an effective leader, and he must go!

Gavin Newsom is right: "Pathetic"

I'm really sorry it had to happen like this but I'm heartened to see more people recognizing the need for Reconstruction Democrats regardless of who has to go to get them there.

and let's be realistic they are going to do this again in january like, note for note.

Since the Democrats worked extra hard to hide who actually supported this, I think the No Kings/Resistance position should be to primary every Democrat unless they publicly call for Schumer's ouster this week

Either they go into total rebellion mode, which they won't, or the people will

This is really good to see: Miki Sherrill just put out a statement sharply criticizing the Senate Dems' pending cave in the government shutdown, ripping it as "malpractice" and a betrayal of the people who are "counting on us to fight for them." Sherrill knows what drove her victory. Wake up, Dems.
