It's sorta nuts, but quitting Facebook and Twitter were the dominoes that lead to me going back for grad school... so yeah, I guess
The most precious commodity you have is your attention. You don’t have to waste it on poor-faith debates or arguments with strangers if you don’t think they’ll be productive. You can prioritize the things that matter to you and make your life richer.

I need everybody to read this and understand what’s going on. These are spouses of US citizens in the country legally. They have entry clearance and green cards, they’ve passed background checks and have no criminal records. ICE is taking them anyway.

Ok NYT wut does the second sentence have to do w/ the first

“The shooting of two National Guard members on Wednesday was not the first time there was violence near the White House.

During World War II, a stranger slipped into the White House to watch a movie with President Franklin D. Roosevelt.”

I feel as if we're capable of acknowledging that a one-day boycott is mostly symbolic without becoming contemptuous and dismissive of people finding a little meaning and comfort in such a symbol. The scorn seems petty.

a good part of me thinks that in addition to everything else, the reason they are scrubbing these stories is they do not want disadvantaged kids to believe they can aspire to anything other than their designated “black” or “hispanic” or “woman” job
This profile has been scrubbed from the site. Rose Ferreira grew up without reliable electricity, immigrated to NY, then survived homelessness and cancer on her way to NASA. She was so moved by images from the Webb telescope she wept. This is what’s at stake

Politico helped Trump launder lies during the campaign and he’s been on a week-long rampage against them anyway ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
This Politico story from last October shows how easy it is to launder lies through the press. It claimed Trump would ban anyone tied to Project 2025 from a job in a second Trump administration.
“Clearly people working on Project 2025 are blacklisted,” said an unidentified Trump insider. 1/4🧵

The names include conservatives linked to Project 2025 and Republicans viewed as disloyal to the former president.

A photo from tonight, day 73 non-stop. We want free and fair elections for four reasons: electoral fraud, a U-turn in foreign policy, systemic torture of protesters, and endless crisis that will only deepen. And the release of the political prisoners. #GeorgiaProtests

Musk isn’t making government smaller.

He’s shutting down the parts of the government that have been investigating his companies for safety violations and ties to Russia.

If we had enforced laws against white collar crime this stupid shit would not be happening. There has been countless opportunities to use the state against Musk and the VC class because they have been openly committing crimes for a long fucking time.
A review of PPP loan fraud for Republican donors only is partially what a Democrat version of DOGE would probably look like and it’s real stupid that wasn’t done.

Yessss! An affinity for the kind of racial politics that permitted his wealth, but a cosmopolitan (Anglo) aspiration rather than one committed to white native betterment (Afrikaner), to speak in generalizations.

This is fascinating. Also makes me think about the slippages in Musk's identity, a white guy raised in a Pretoria mining family surrounded by Afrikaans culture but not actually Afrikaner.
This “Trump saves the Afrikaners” saga is wild. So Trump made that EO in which he commits to “the resettlement of Afrikaner refugees escaping government-sponsored race-based discrimination,” and Afriforum — an Afrikaner rights group — is like no thanks, we aren’t refugees and we aren’t leaving lmfao

Washington basically runs on Signal right now and that one change has made reporting and whistleblowing way more private and secure.

It's an intriguing part of Congress acquiescing to this coup. The GOP spent 45 years making the federal gov't subsidize red states and rural areas. E.g., if some greasy incel uses "fraud detection AI" to cut unusually high proportions of SSI/SSDI recipients, that'd be West Virginia (9.6%).
Just learned from NPR that the federal government is the largest employer in the great Kansas City area, for example. I found it helpful to be reminded that, of course, this isn’t just about people who work and live in DC. Federal employees are in all of our communities.
