Hi, hello! 👋🏼 I'm new here, so an intro feels right.

I'm Nadia, I live in a tiny village in the Hälsingland region of Sweden with my husband, our cat Bella and our rabbit Doris.

I write (mainly) short stories exploring how we relate to each other and to place during a time of climate breakdown.
Them: write a normal-ass argumentative essay
Me: ok i'll argue that fiction can sometimes be fact and i'll do it by using a ghost story as an example

Speaking of Substack, I've been pretty shit at sharing my newsletters on here - so here's the most recent one which I eked out of myself over the course of a month and a half: on feelings, digital overwhelm, reading and writing (or not) deskdespatches.substack.com/p/autumn-des...

I did just write 'it's giving Derrida' in my pre-seminar notes, so I think I'm making sense of how all of the theory I've read over the last month interconnects (side note: studying on sundays kinda sucks)

I wasn't expecting such a big part of writing a novel draft set in rural early 20th century Sweden to be pausing to check, for example, the material a cowbell would have been tied with

We stand in solidarity with our trans siblings and are united in our anger at the Supreme Court ruling & EHRC update.

Trans, non-binary and intersex people are facing exclusion from basic aspects of public life.

Please read this thread that contains recommendations and calls to action.

historical fiction writers, how do you do it? I can barely get through a sentence in this draft without being dragged into a research hole about, say, which alcoholic beverages farmers drank in the early 1900s

Since we are back at work in the UK today - it's a GREAT time to email your MP about the Supreme Court ruling and the threats to trans people as a result. I used this helpful guide to write to my MP. You should too.

URGENT ACTION: Write to your MP to protest the Supreme Court ruling and the EHRC's proposals to impose draconian bans on trans people from single-sex spaces.
The trans community is facing a major crisis in the UK after the Supreme Court ruled last week that for the purposes of The Equality Act 2010 sex should be classified as biological (i.e. as recorded a...

Every writer against genocide belongs in their union.

The Society of Authors does not stand for a free Palestine. Not yet.

Amid Israel’s destruction of libraries, bookshops, printing presses and publishing houses in Gaza, the SoA’s lack of solidarity is driving members to leave the union. [1]
