Fantasy novelist, writer, SFWA, techie, liberal, musicophile. If your big complaint about Jane Austen is too few dragons, I write for you. mverant.com
I'm warming up for my next writing project by reading books with similar age protagonists. I just finished Shut Up, This Is Serious, a YA book (not speculative) by Oakland author Carolina Ixta. I started just curious about the voice, but I read the whole thing! Great book 🎉 amzn.to/4pGHgF6

Might be the first time that sentence has ever been written #dragon #toilet

The Only Constant is Change
Have you heard the phrase "The only constant is change?" It's true, especially in publishing. Trends change, and you have to go with it. And that's why the entire Blood of the Raven series is getting new covers to celebrate the release of book three! Wait, what? Didn't book 2 just come out a few months ago? Yes, yes it did. And yes, I do love that cover. But it appears that the cover art trend is shifting, and that shiny new cover is already dated. So... shiny new covers! AND...

I'm out of ISBN numbers. Time to pay tribute $$$ to the Bowker shakedown of US publishing. Hmm
- $295 for 10. That'll last 6 years.
- $595 for 100 so I never, ever have to fork out these ridiculous prices again.

Much gratitude to @alawinans.bsky.social for this incredible artwork. It captured so much of the feel and themes of the book (and it's just flat out gorgeous so I love to look at it!)

Always liked how early the Royal Navy started down its path of giving its most lethal warships embarrassing names.

Nothing worse than discovering you've just had the crap kicked out of you, in naval terms, by the "Peter Pomegranate"
In 1511, £142 4s 6d (about £132,700 in modern money) was spent on supplies "for painting and staining of certain banners and streamers for the use of our ships called the Mary Rose and Peter Pomegranate"
