While we're banning books....

Finland’s schools are teaching children how to recognise fake news and propaganda as part of critical thinking and civic responsibility.

It is self-evident that we are not.

That’s why the role is called Teacher-Librarian!

Teacher first,
then upgraded
to Teacher-Librarian.

Doubly skilled.

Even when I appear to be only librarianing, I’m still also teaching. Everything I do is teaching…and librarianing.

What’s their superpower?

(I’d celebrate it w/out degrading it.)
A non-teacher adult stopped in the library between classes today -

Her: “You should be a teacher! That lesson was so interesting, and you were so engaging with the students!”

Me: “Thanks. I taught English for 24 years before this.”

Thank you to all the librarians. You play a vital role in society that will become even more important in this anti-science time.

Today just happens to be Library Lovers’ Day.

breathe in; breathe out.

reminder to do something community-led today. big or small. organize, reach out. share. do something tangible, subtle, and real. these are the bonds that will get us through. link arms spiritually. we have to brace the storm together to try to survive it together.

Self-care station…but for the soul!

A lovey lady donated this vintage card catalog to the #library, and I wasted no time in turning it into a Kindness Station. For students and by students, anyone can come by for a pick-me-up.

The library is truly the third space. ❤️ #libraries #librarylife

Yet another “school choice” piece of legislation in my state. Voters voted against it in November. How infuriating is it to hear the same thing over again?

The U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights has announced that it is arbitrarily dismissing student and parent complaints arising out of public schools’ documented acts of censorship and discrimination.
Our response: Book bans are real.
