The examples all come from wildlife ecology and conservation, many from the marine world.

But the lessons and principles are broadly applicable to most fields of science!
ICYMI, later this week (in 2 different time slots) I am offering a free online crash-course in how to write and publish a scientific paper. This course is ideal for grad students and early career researchers interested in writing their first paper.

Confused writing is usually a symptom of confused thinking. As we struggle to clarify writing, we clarify our thoughts. AI writing aids rob us of that struggle, leaving clean-looking text and thoughts still confused for lack of inspection. Writing is not just a product; it is a diagnostic tool.

I like that you sprinkle your straight-up science with other posts that show you're a regular human. Historically, one couldn't be a credible Scientist and also share things that mark them as sometimes silly, uncertain, frustrated, or joyful. But you're a very good example that shows otherwise. :)

Friends, it’s never been more important for scientists to break out of the ivory tower and engage with the public.

My course- which you can take for graduate school course credit, continuing professional education credit, or just to learn a new skill- can help.

Please share!

If I make seaweed wine or mead, yall gonna drink it?
#Seaweed gin! 🍸 “We did not want to create a gin that tastes like seaweed,” Jampol said. “Not sure that would do well, but we did want to create one that is smoother than most other gins out there and that has a bright profile. And I think the nori contributes directly to that.”

i will never understand how coral people do it day after day. Or mentally grasp that I might be the last generation of diver to see a reef
Devastating update on coral reefs in WA 🥲
www.theguardian.com/environment/... Starting in August 2024, an unprecedented heatwave has swept across Western Australia’s reefs, turning corals white from the World Heritage-listed Ningaloo all the way to Ashmore Reef, about 1,500km north-east.
