Joyce Carol Oates sitting across a desk from Kendrick Lamar:

"So I'm putting a team together..."

Isaac Chotiner knocks on the open door.
Personally, I will be trying to avoid the notice of Joyce Carol Oates and Kendrick Lamar for the rest of my natural life
I need Joyce Carol Oates to be mean to me online so I can get my life together

I've noticed the opposing team's fans only cheer when the opponents score on us. To win those fans over, I recommend we score on ourselves repeatedly; that will surely make them so happy they'll start supporting us. And I'm sure all our fans will keep cheering for us—who else is there to cheer for?

Philanthropy will never be a replacement for the services that the government can and should provide. Which is why we should tax the shit out of wealthy people to pay for such services.

It really does seem like there's a decent chance that these senators screwed us because they don't want their personal Thanksgiving plans to be disrupted.
Anyway a great way to radicalize people is for them to realize that you just abandoned their chance at being able to access and afford health care because you didn’t like waiting in line at the airport.

But at some point, if following the law and procedure leads to this, what's the point of following the law and procedure?

Conservative SCOTUS justices do whatever they want, law and procedure be damned. Law and procedure are means to an end, not an end in themselves.

Companies have so fetishized the idea of free labor they’re paying the highest prices to get it.

If they can just realize their dream of a world without employees, they think, the savings will come. The savings will come.

It’ll all be worth it when nobody has a job and all the money’s dried up.

That “would mark one of the largest single-quarter losses for a tech company in history.”

I was just talking with my girlfriend last week about this and how there's like a concrete event horizon beyond which "money can't buy happiness" becomes true
A friend and I talk a lot about how the beauty of money (small m) is that it allows you to buy your way out of problems. Car broke down? You can afford to fix it.

But it seems with very rich people, the inability for money to "fix" a situation - like mortality - to their liking is THE problem.
