This is not to call anybody specific out but often we reinvent the wheel for project management because directors and leads have ways they like to work, simply do not budge, and then production has to slap something together around that. I like to work with people on systems that help them (cont)
just as an outsider with an interest in video game development, and coming from the film industry, it really feels like the game industry has no standardized workflow. every new project gets a bespoke production system with a lot of uncertainty about tasks, roles and who should be doing what
Why do video games cost so much to make these days? A recent NYT article pinned bloated budgets on the graphical arms race, but that's only a small part of the equation. The real problem? Rampant mismanagement.

Folks that work in production, how do you get better at it? I read, listen to podcasts, watch GDC talks, and get certifications in projecty things, but I feel like I’m missing a massive amount of hands on experience and am completely stuck on how to improve.

I always hesitate to post anything on social media these days. There’s just this voice in the back of my head that goes “Why would you post that? What are you looking to get?” I never know the answer, so I just don’t.
That said, I’ll be at GDC this week and would be up for meeting folks!

So this is a weird thing to verbalize and I’m still trying to think about what it means, but I’ve had a few interactions over the last week that made me realize that I might want to drop “he” from my pronouns completely and just stick to “they/them”?

I get such a weird feeling whenever I go and see shows. Like, I have a degree in getting these productions up and running, and here I am asking devs to update their Jiras.

Working out using dedication is not as fun as working out with motivation.
I mean… I guess that applies to other situations too, but at least at work I don’t have 100lbs above my head 😅
