Talarico: if you read the new testament, Jesus doesn't spend most of his time preaching or teaching or even praying. He spends most of his time healing the sick.

Right now, we have politicians in congress with Christ follower in their Twitter bio, but they are kicking the sick off their health care

I don’t know when it’s going to pop for a lot of normies that they are living under an authoritarian regime, but the cancellation of popular TV shows that make fun of the administration might do it www.vulture.com/article/abc-...

The decision follows conservative backlash to a comment the late-night host made about Charlie Kirk.

Considering he's consistently been the highest-rated late-night host for years...yeah.
Here's Colbert on July 14 making fun of Paramount for paying Trump $16 million. It's hard not to see CBS canceling his show through this lens.

"I believe this kind of complicated financial settlement with a sitting government official has a technical name in legal circles. It's big fat bribe."

I learned this the hard way with my very first conference talk (lightning talk, thank god). My first time going without notes was when I gave the actual presentation and it .... Didn't go well haha.

Now, I prepare assuming no PowerPoint notes and have physical note cards in case my mind blanks
I’ve been to about 80 scientific conferences at a wide variety of venues

Sometimes you’re able to see your PowerPoint speaker notes. Sometimes you’re not.

But you almost never know in advance of arriving at the venue

So I strongly recommend to practice your talk enough that you don’t need it!

I don’t think anyone is prepared for what they just did w/ ICE.

This is not a simple budget increase. It is an explosion - making ICE bigger than the FBI, US Bureau of Prisons, DEA,& others combined.

It is setting up to make what’s happening now look like child’s play. And people are disappearing.

One of these 2025 episode titles is real and I made up the rest.

Guess which is real.

2 Great white sex battle

3 Great white invasion

4 Florida’s death beach

legitimately, being able to calmly say "I was wrong, my bad" or "oh, I didn't know that!" when being corrected or encountering new information is an actual skill, something people have to work to develop, and the fact that so many adults are incapable of doing it is a problem

There is a lie that shapes our governing ideologies & institutions in this country: that property is of more value than people. The idea is as pervasive as it is destructive & has to be completely destroyed for justice & equality to be made more than empty phrases & meaningless gestures.

Contrast this to the announcement yesterday that the government would garnish wages, SS, etc. of student loan borrowers who defaulted.

I'm no economist, but taking as much money as possible from low/middle income folks while taking relatively little from the rich seems financially inefficient, no?
Q: "The president posted this morning that he would be okay with raising taxes on the rich. Is that something that is being seriously considered?"

Hassett: "The president is not a strong advocate of that."
