Report on the Jasper wildfire was just released. It mentions the likely fire tornado had damage similar to an EF4-EF5 tornado. The NTP is currently analyzing this event and hopefully we will get information about the number of tornadoes and intensity soon. #abstorm #abfire

A wildfire in Itcha Ilgachuz Provincial Park is likely generating a tornadic fire vortex (a fire tornado) per CASPG radar. It is appearing up to a depth of ~3.35 km. #bcstorm #bcfire

OTD in 2024, a high-intensity wildfire raced through Jasper National Park. The fire generated at least four tornadic vortices all of which were likely significant. This was, in my opinion, one of the more impressive fire tornadic events on record. #abstorm #abfire

The first-known #pyroCb in South Korea happened this morning (UTC) on a large fire near Uiseong. PyroCb are wildfire driven thunderstorms that can act like chimneys and transport smoke into the upper troposphere/lower stratosphere. H/T to the pyroCb community/email thread for catching this!

Models are showing potential for a fire weather outbreak in west Texas on Tuesday. Widespread 30-35 mph winds, dry fuels and low RH will create conditions favorable for rapid fire spread. #txwx #txfire

Today marks 74 years since one of the most interesting and impactful weather events in North American history slammed the Northeast US. Extreme coastal wind and an immense interior blizzard accompanied by frigid temperatures killed nearly 400 people.

The NYC metro and almost all of CT and RI are experiencing widespread elevated to near-critical fire weather conditions. These conditions are some of the worst of the year so far for New England. #wxsky #ctwx #riwx #nywx #njwx

Nov 10: 1,700+ structures now damaged or destroyed in #California from wildfires in 2024. Highest since 2021 but far lower than historic years in 2018, 2017, or 2020.

FYI: Seasonal acres burned does not necessarily correlate to more damage. Fire weather conditions are a more accurate climate link.

Does anyone have an alternative source for pre-1950 Weather Bureau surface maps as the NOAA library source isn't working? #wxsky

4 years ago on this day, the East Troublesome Fire made a 37 km run overnight to the Continental Divide. This is likely the single most extreme fire event recorded in Colorado in modern times. #cowx

Smoke is getting thicker at the Hwy 92 camera south of David City. The fire is close. Hopefully it doesn't spot across the highway. #wxsky
