Some sort of a historian/IR person by background. Interested in the history of "Altaic" linguistics, Eurasianisms, and the Manchu language.
Of course, treaties are as reliable as the states that sign them. How are we to know what, according to Americans, counts as Russian aggression in the future? Or are the inevitable violations going to be obscured with propaganda and "who knows what happened"-narratives?

The third point in the plan is also rather strange: "It is expected that Russia will not invade neighbouring countries [...]" And if they do invade? Obviously this isn't presented in a particularly convincing way, so why mention it at all?

Regarding point 11 in this mafia-esque extortion - What the hell is this? It's not up to Americans and Russians to decide weather Ukraine is or isn't eligible for the EU membership. Neither is anything else EU-related.

It seems rather clear that the so-called peace plan was written for the sole purpose of being rejected.

Important topic. Though I'd like to emphasize that despite the standardization efforts for the Latin-based orthography, there's a variety of "unofficial" writing methods for these languages being used. I've even heard of someone still using Kanji. I think it's great, even if a bit impractical.
"Taiwan is home to over 20 living languages, and many of them don’t require a single Chinese character. In fact, some of the most vibrant linguistic revival movements happening on the island right now rely largely on extended Latin alphabets," says 姜呈穎 of JustFont.

To my understanding 'horn' is 'eber' in classical Mongolian vs. эвэр in modern Mongolian. Can anyone give some context into how Buryat has seemingly preserved the "original" form? Does it have to do with Mongolian standardization (e.g. from certain dialect), transcription, or what's going on here?

Came across this article arguing that Qing's approach towards the aboriginals in Taiwan wasn't one of exploitation since it was "security-orientated and deliberately non-expansive." I don't see how such a "security-oriented" motif isn't based on territorial exploitation.

My favourite thing about Southeast Asian horror films is that they skip the "Pff, you believe in ghosts?" -part. Everyone believes, instantly.

Do folks like dictionaries? I mean where applicable - for smaller/dead languages, as well as for etymologies etc, dictionaries are still instrumental.
I personally like casually browsing a decent dictionary, that's something lacking when using translation tools.

Love this Canto phrase 見攰就唞 gin3 gui6 zau6 tau2 “feel tired then rest” cuz it illustrates how Cantonese uses words differently from other Sinitic languages

見 here doesn’t mean “to see” but “to feel”
攰 means “tired”
就 means “then”
唞 means “to rest”

Here (百家姓) 'Phags-pa 沈 would transliterate into "zhim", would it not? As in it's not ꡮ, but ꡚ ? Perhaps it's only a relative distinction, but I'm still wondering what would be a semi-accurate latin transliteration of 沈 from some sort of Middle Chinese? It seems close(?) to modern Hakka 'shim'.

One interesting development in China's official communication in the last decade or so is the open turn towards far-right (I guess what most would call 'fascist') style of output. The "communist" aesthetics of pseudo-solidarity have been switched to whatever the hell this is.
This is amazingly tacky from the PLA, lol
