The needs of disabled people are called “special” to make them sound unreasonable and extravagant.

These needs are called “special” so that those opposed to equality can find an excuse not to accommodate for them.

The hiring of disabled people did NOT cause the plane crash. Imagine blaming disabled people on your incompetence.

Cutting benefits does not make disabled people able to work.

Removing remote work does not make disabled people able to work.

Accommodating people’s needs does however allow more disabled people to work and thrive.

Disabled people should not have to crowdfund to obtain accessibility.

Read that again.

Charlie Kirk called ASL interpretation a “distraction."

In response, the president of the National Association of the Deaf board wrote: “This real-time interpretation can be life-saving during emergencies, when clear and immediate understanding is vital.”
LA is burning, and the Right is furious—about sign language interpreters
Life-saving ASL interpretation is the latest woke scourge.

If it is designed to require a “helper” in order to use, it is not accessible.

If it involves going out of your way to find someone to unlock it, it is not accessible.

If it is broken down and not able to be used, it is not accessible.

It’s International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

A day that reminds us accessibility isn’t a luxury—it’s essential.

And I, for one, am extremely grateful for those who fight for inclusion and for every disabled creative tenaciously carving out a space in a world that often overlooks us.

And currently the US government is tracking people who receive HCBS through many programs by GPS through a program called EVV.
*States do not have to cover HCBS, meaning they can cut these programs when budgets get tight—an inevitable result if Congress cuts #Medicaid funding. ~8 million people with disabilities of all ages could lose access to the support they need to live with their spouses & families in their communities
Medicaid Facts: #Medicaid is the primary funder of long-term services and supports (LTSS). In 2022, Medicaid covered home- and community-based services (HCBS) for 7.8 million people and institutional care for 1.5 million people (1.3 million in nursing homes).
