If you're taking the CPC exam in 2025, you can still use 2024 coding books. There's more info on this on the AAPC website.

So you do not have to purchase new coding books just to take the exam.

Once you pass your CPC exam, you will be a CPC-A. The "A" stands for "Apprentice Status." This means that you do not have work experience yet. There are a few ways to remove A status. You can use 2 years of work experience, a combination of school and work, or school and the Practicode.

Did you know there's a difference between a coding certificate and certification?

A certificate is from your course, and it means you completed a program.

A coding certification is when you pass one of the exams from AAPC, for example the CPC exam.

Certification is required for employment.
