Now the NIH postbac research program is paused??? What a huge loss for the scientific community. This has been a great program that has provided critical training for so many young scientists.
With everything going on I went to check the NIH Postbac Program and was sadden to see this on the main page. For those who don’t know, I was an NIH IRTA Postbac and I attribute so much of my training from this program. I did not get much research experience during my undergraduate. (1/7)

I'm leading a panel today at the Cilia, Mucus & Mucociliary Interactions GRS on "Life After a Terminal Degree: Careers in Academia, Industry, and Beyond." What a time for this discussion. What advice would you give trainees about why it's worth it to continue to pursue a career in science?

Now seems a good time to mention that I haven't yet filled a postdoc position in phylogenetic methods. If you just lost your job, need something temporary, and know something about bioinformatics/statistics/evolution, talk to me.
Spread the word that I have a postdoc opening right now, and am also open to PhD applications evol.mcmaster.ca/brian/evoldi.... We have lots of follow up ideas! 15/15

@asm.org leadership pledged support to continue to host ABRCMS in a virtual town hall event with members today, even if federal funding falls short.
ABRCMS will be held, supported directly by ASM bc federal funding is lacking. Tax exempt status is brought up as reason to comply with the law. I heard this might be a reason for this. So disappointed, both in current administration and ASM leadership.

The @asm.org Future Leaders program has been instrumental at preparing future scientists who represent our community's diverse membership. It's critical that this program and others can continue. Members should speak out in support of keeping these important initiatives. asm.org/fellowships/...

As a former Wisconsin grad myself (Class of ‘07, BS in Medical Microbiology & Immunology), I just had a very surreal experience of writing a letter of rec for one of my students to join the Microbiology PhD program there. Wow. On Wisconsin! (Not that I’m biased in anything 😉)
