In 3 days, the number of measles cases in a highly unvaccinated area of Texas has doubled. There are now 48 cases, all of whom are unvaccinated, and 13 of whom have been hospitalized so far, for a hospitalization rate of 27%. This is huge figure in epidemiology. This outbreak will keep spreading.

Happy #InternationalDayofWomenandGirlsinScience! In the last decade, our main fight at the #WomenInSTEM Archive has been against indifference, but now with active organized attempts by the government to efface women scientists, we continue our promise to keep providing a home for these stories.

As a casual non-white observer, it’s so bizarre to see folks work so hard to try to prove their superiority over someone like me when they could spend that time actually bettering their own lives and…I don’t know, be happy instead of miserable fucks.

Did you know that there are a bunch of cold-blooded animals that have adapted to live in cold-water environments in the winter?
For instance, Brook trout seek out deep pools with slow-moving water to conserve energy. The cold winter water is more oxygenated which is beneficial for aquatic inverts! 🐛

Going to give this a try. Posting mostly about conservation work with The Orianne Society. Lots of cool reptile and amphibian research. This Eastern Indigo Snake is one of the species that we work with a lot. Endemic to the southeastern US and the longest native #snake in the US.

Hope y’all are enjoying the snow! It’s year of the snake 🐍, and I know they scare a lot of people but they are so cool and get a really bad rep! Did you know that snakes are great for pest control? If you have a vole in your garden, a Garter snake will take care of that for you no problem!💜
