Today, after months of requests, I toured the Broadview ICE Processing Facility. I want to share what I saw.

The facility has no food vendor, no medical care, and detainees have to use toilets in the middle of shared cells. These are in no way suitable conditions to be holding anyone — period.

Before the midterms of 1866, President Andrew Johnson called his congressional opponents traitors and said they should be hanged.

Voters were so profoundly moved by his words... that they gave his opponents a supermajority in Congress, and the nation got the Fourteenth Amendment.

I think a thing we'll learn tonight is that people fucking hate what is going on and they will straight ticket vote against anyone involved in starving people while pillaging the country and kidnapping their neighbors. I don't think it matters at all who that person is.

I used to work in the White House. I attended countless meetings in the East Wing, and I am heartsick about the demolition of such a truly historic building. Heartsick

Here’s a report from DC: Now documented laborers are refusing to do work in DC bc ICE is detaining anyone who is brown regardless of status. I spoke with a roofer who hasn’t been able to install a roof in two weeks and may have to shut down his business. I am both irate and heartbroken

One of the greats has passed. Robert Redford was a celebrated actor, director, and someone who held a mirror up to America. His work will live on, but we Ordinary People will feel The Sting of his loss for years. Rest among the stars now, and when you see heaven, may a River Run Through It.

On this Labor Day, let us remember that it wasn’t the CEOs and billionaires who saved us during COVID-19. It was the janitors, nurses, cleaning crews, grocery and food workers with their hard, often invisible labor.

I am America. All my ancestors arrived before 1815, and my people have served in the military since King Philip's War. I have ancestors from Africa who, at some point, passed. My people started businesses, worked for the govt, taught school, served communities. They voted, protested and built lives.

As a DC resident who walks these streets in every part of this city and have done for 55 years, and as someone who rides the bus and the Metro, I can tell you that the only significant crime in this city is located right at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave., NW
First, the troops came to LA to attack and disappear the peaceful protesters.

Then, the troops came to DC to attack and disappear the peaceful homeless.

If America falls, it will be because of the people who weren’t paying attention — and didn’t take that damn poem seriously.
