Making videos about the deep end of fashion. Bringing out the art within fashion and learning to appreciate it.

Hey y'all! Metonym here.
I'm making content for those who:

・ want to learn about archive designers
・ interested in the intersection of fashion and art
・ enjoy fashion responsibly and not as consumerism
・ care about design and quality
When brands brag about how much sample iterations they had to go through, it just sounds to me like they either suck at production management or they picked the wrong factory. Either way that cost will be shouldered by the customer.

The Zara Soshiotsuki collection looks like it was designed more by the Zara merchandising team than Otsuki himself. As usual whatever Zara does you will find me on the other side.

Just read in an interview with Rei Kawakubo that the 2018AW Homme Plus show was put together start to finish in 2 months.

The dinosaur heads (by artist Shimoda Masakatsu) was put into the show at the last minute because Rei didn't feel like the looks were strong enough on their own.

An aesthetic is just a subculture without its ideological core. Paraphrased from this excellent essay apocalypse-confidential.com/2025/11/24/c...
CULTURAL DEATH IN THE AGE OF THE EXCESSIVE CHOICE
There was a time when culture gestured outward toward shared experience, toward the new, toward some horizon of possibility. Now, it stares inward, fragmented, homogenized, and devoid of collective…

Nobody asked, but here's my notebook for how I research and write for my Lemaire videos. It takes way more time than I'd like.

Anyways the next video is extra spicy, and it'll be on why Lemaire doesn't follow trends. It will be out this week or early next week.

You never ever hear big fashion CEOs get grilled by journalists nowadays. Ladies and gentlemen, it just happened here.

Imran: "How do you justify the insane pricing?"
CEO: "I don't want to talk pricing. If I’m not able to sell you emotion (read: thin air), then we discuss pricing."
Prada Group CEO Andrea Guerra on Fixing the Luxury Business Model | The Business of Fashion Podcast
The seasoned luxury executive joins Imran Amed at BoF VOICES 2025 to discuss pricing strategies and the importance of creative tension and cultural relevance.

Possibly the best Marina Yee profile I've seen was posted over the weekend.

Even Meirens’ daughter, Sophie Pay, admits Marina’s influence: “When you just looked at her, how she looked and how she dressed, and you looked at Martin’s collections, it was quite obvious.”

What I find fascinating about Japanese fashion discourse is how they treat sizing flexibly. You can choose to size up/down for a certain look, instead of the fit/doesn't fit dichotomy of the Anglosphere. There's also much more sizing literacy in being able to read measurements.

Been working on the next video which will be on why Lemaire doesn't follow trends. In the meantime have this rare Yohji editorial from the book All About Yohji Yamamoto.

I don't know about you, but every time I see the word "edit" on a store page I get the suspicion I'm being sold CSOs.

Antwerp Six designer Marina Yee passed away yesterday.

Not a lot of people know about her contribution to fashion, but she was part of the Margiela founding crew and was responsible for many of its ideas. #fashionsky

Amazing interview done by BoF. We learn that Yohji lost his mother Fumi in 2023, and his dog Rin only recently. They were incredibly close to his heart and reflected everywhere in his creation. May they rest in peace.
Yohji Yamamoto: ‘The Fashion Business Is Disappearing’
The 82-year-old punk poet anti-hero of fashion has grown a brand that now generates more than $200 million a year, but there is plenty he is angry about as he prepares his label for the future.

Ladies and gentlemen, if you're still buying bag charms in the face of this image you need to reconsider your life choices.

Considering how bad most new clothing in America is, I predict:

Instead of Japanese buyers coming to America to buy vintage Ralph, Eddie and LLB, we'll have American buyers going to Japan to buy vintage Uniqlo, Workman and Montbell.

For those who miss the old Uniqlo U (back when materials weren't all plastic) you should look towards Muji Labo.

This season they're offering a coat with 78% wool, 11% cashmere and 11% nylon for around $300. This is seriously impressive.

I've been saying this for a while, Lemaire is directly inspired by Yohji Yamamoto. I don't know why nobody else has said it in public. So I'm talking about it. www.youtube.com/watch?v=D0iK...
Lemaire's design is born from Yohji Yamamoto.

As a YouTuber myself, I now understand why most YouTube videos now feel like slop.

There is no way one can create a thoughtful video while uploading once or multiple times a week. You only have a few hours to research/write and the rest of the week is spent recording and editing.

The Y2K aesthetic revival is really just a Hot Topic revival. But underneath it is a very real urge for meaning and creative expression.

As a Gen Z myself it's frustrating to finally grow up and have money; yet all the things we longed after as a kid on the internet are now long gone.

Been thinking about the erosion of the fashion scene, I think this article described it well.

"No one has to be evil or stupid: the platform does what’s profitable, sellers do what works, buyers try to make smart decisions, and yet the whole system degrades into something nobody actually wants."

Incredibly depressing that "promoting the enduring artistic qualities of complexity, ambiguity, and innovation" can only be understood as "snobbery," which denotes "taste discrimination by people with status anxiety."

In an era of AI slop and mid TV, is it time for cultural snobbery to make a comeback?
The lowbrow dominates culture and anyone who questions the status quo is dismissed as an elitist killjoy. But with bland algorithmic content on the rise, perhaps we consumers should start taking our a...

Went to see Uniqlo U FW25 in person for launch. The block tech outerwear were better made than I expected, especially women's. I also liked the denim and the twill shirts.

However I feel confused because this collection doesn't feel like Lemaire. It feels like Veilance or Daiwa.
