City of Yarra are doing some additional works along the Ottery reserve ramp adjacent to the Merri Creek Path which will result in the closure of the Merri-creek trail for a short period of time, from the 25th of August hopefully for only 3 days.

The global phenomenon of “bikelash” has become one of the biggest barriers to implementing interventions that make our streets more liveable, accessible and sustainable. So how do we best manage it as advocates for change? Here are eight strategies we recently presented at the Velo-city Conference.🧵

Going multimodal today, via bike -> train -> bike so I have to dress appropriately.

Stop the ban of ebikes on trains or I'll be late to all my meetings.

This ban will stop people accessing work, social and recreational opportunities, and will do very little to prevent the most dangerous batteries from being on the train. You can do the survey and/or make a submission here: engage.vic.gov.au/public-trans...

We've heard from so many people that will have their transport accessibility diminished by the proposed e-bike ban. E-bike + train is often what allows people to use public transport; because of failures in PT reach, gaps in the cycling network, disabilities, age or medical conditions.

Ban on e-bikes on trains a response over the top, cycling advocates say
Cycling advocates say fires on trains are a rare occurrence and the risk could be managed by enforcing quality standards on imported batteries and devices.

The DTP want to ban ALL e-bikes from trains. If you wanted to ensure that only the shittiest & most dangerous unregistered motorbikes are on trains this is the perfect way to do it while also penalising the elderly & disabled riding perfectly legal e-bikes. engage.vic.gov.au/public-trans...

The Victoria St civil works will take approximately 4 - 6 weeks to complete, depending on weather permitting and ground conditions (after this the workers will move over to Albert St and are scheduled to complete all works by 30 September 2025).
July 15, 2025 at 4:17 AM
In more detail: Riders will be able to continue using the route at all times. During regular work hours traffic controllers will be onsite, & riders may need to dismount and walk. After workers pack up each day, Victoria St and Elesbury Ave will be reopened to traffic.

Do you use the Brunswick East Shimmy near Fleming Park in Brunswick? Construction has started on permanent shared zones either side of the park and will impact riders as they travel through, for a couple of months. Traffic controllers will be on site so follow directions when required!
