My favorite color: the bright yellow of fall cottonwood trees in New Mexico, especially the way that from a distance you can spot a meandering river by looking at the golden leaves.

“Yellow” would also be correct. But not the same.

Yes, so I did in fact ignore all the interesting people and beautiful kilts and stuff at the Highland Games and take a photo of price tags. But I was only gone for 1/50th of a second and then came right back.

If you get a chance to hear the Scottish band Albannach*, you should definitely go.

*For fun, learn how to pronounce “albannach” and then spend a lot of time practicing. (“Aalbannach” is Scottish Gaelic for “Scottish.”) (Look at you, speaking Gaelic and all!)

After a while, I took a break from making regular sunset photos, and decided to do some with intentional camera movement. It’s kind of a cliche, a little redundant, perhaps derivative, but still I liked swirling the oranges and yellow together.

I mean, it did feel somewhat like magic, with the purple door and orange trim, the low light, the bounced light, the salt air.

And anyway, who am I to argue with Chaddy’s Emporium and their signage? Surely they wouldn’t say it if it weren’t a fact.

“St. Brendan” might sound like the patron saint of golf shirts or something, he’s actually the patron saint of sailors, travelers, and whales. And if you only take one thing away from this post, I hope it will be that whales have their own saint.

The front of this headstone said “Our Dear Mother” and the intricate carving did indicate that they did hold their mother dear. It was all lovely and was enhanced by the fall colors of the lichen.
