As I have said before, this was nothing short of criminal neglect.

My town is a designated refugee resettlement community (back to WWII), and a friend always organizes all the recent arrivals’ kids for Halloween. Free costumes, donated pumpkins to carve, group treating thru our neighborhood. Best part of last night was when these 20+ kids showed up! 😍🎃

I wish I could talk like this (am learning). Much of the rhetoric my fellow administrators use is about “tech solutions for student success” and it is very hard to break that frame. It is so deeply embedded now.
the algorithmic logic of monopoly tech hegemony in resources to acces knowledge play out. In another dystopian near-future, your AI driven browser and search engines of all flavours will spew out contents of this fascist pedia as if it was true. It shapes knowledge, it shapes reality. It is nothing

Days later, I’m still feeling inspired to add zines to my 🗃️ pedagogy. I attended a JMU symposium, workshop, and art bookfair on zines that a colleague organized. A way to share institutional histories that are hidden. Do you assign zines? Lmk!

In 1857, Thomas Howland became Providence, RI's first Black elected official.
Later that year, he decided to emigrate to Liberia with his wife & daughter after the Dred Scott case denied Black people protections of U.S. citizenship. He was denied a passport.
