These changes would have made the difference in Rob Jenner living or dying in the summer of 2024. They might make the difference in keeping my family or yours alive, too. We have until December 12th to share how important these changes are to us. Let’s get it done.

Update: The SRSR amended its motion to request anonymized, aggregated Tri-Council data — protecting researcher privacy, and scientific integrity while supporting accountability.

Thank you to Canada’s research community for speaking up!

#SupportOurScience
We're concerned about the SRSR motion requesting 25 years of disaggregated tri-council data. While we understand the data is intended to be anonymized, this wasn't explicitly stated in the motion – and the specific information requested could still enable re-identification when linked together.

The Canadian government has seemingly never read a single one of its own commissioned reports on what Canadian science needs. (It's not more people.)
Globe & Mail reports “the budget is expected to include up to $1-billion to attract high-quality talent and researchers from the United States and elsewhere”
So far hospitals and universities have been going it alone….

Canadian graduate students... how do you feel about members of parliament going through your transcripts and the personal information you disclosed in your applications in order to question whether you deserved your fellowship or not?

The amount of AI generated art in slides at this conference, primarily used by older scientists, is killing me. Scientists please. Don’t use these ai platforms to make your figures or slides. They look bad and I have yet to see them meaningfully improve the message of talks.

More necessary awareness: yes, parliament has the legal authority to do this. There are many reasons they should not. That it is legal does not mean it is ethical, necessary, non-destructive, or appropriate. It DEFINITELY doesn't mean it shouldn't be publicly opposed (👀 @u15ca.bsky.social )... /1
