Saw @leaflet.pub for the first time today. Figured I'd give it a whirl by logging the various links I liked enough to share with other people this week.

Shared this passage with a friend today. Have lost track of the times I've referred to @lethain.com's books and blogposts because there are so many gems in there.
Have read this passage many times over the years, but it still makes me stop and think every time I come across it.

This week's random thought:
Watching experts in their respective fields react to music videos is like Murderbot's ART preferring to watch media with others, so it can "process the media more easily through your filter."

Dual-System Avatars:

Inspired by cognitive theory, OmniHuman-1.5 blends fast, intuitive reactions with slow, deliberate planning. This means avatars don’t just move—they act and react in sync with speech rhythm, prosody, and meaning.

Today's fun bit of AI trivia: I asked ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini to create a transcript for a mock informational interview between two people.

**ALL THREE** AI services named one of the interview participants "Jordan" and gave the same rationale when asked why.

I really can't tell if this is real or a parody . . .

Yes to this "Orchestration vs. Leadership" framing from @lethain.com's recent blog post. lethain.com/orchestratio...

Reminds me of Project Managers who focus only on tracking and reporting on the status (orchestrating) and not on addressing risks, resolving issues, & unblocking tasks (leading).

Just reached the end of Season 2 of The Diplomat and I did not see that plot twist coming! Relieved to learn there's a Season 3.

Today's random lament: I keep typing "jurisfiction" and having to stare at it a few seconds before I spot the typo.

Did you know the way people talk about graduating has changed in the last decade or so? Or that no stylebook says you can't use "over" to mean "more than" anymore?

Last week, I got to talk with Reader's Digest about recent changes to the English language, and some of them may surprise you!
12 Grammar Rules That Have Changed in the Last Decade

1) People hire you because of the values of the organization you left, but not the behaviors. [8m 10s]

Probably the Pragmatic Engineer episode that I've shared the most in a long while.

Lost track of the number of times I thought, "Strong hire."
What does it take to land a job as an AI Engineer—and thrive in the role?

Janvi Kalra works at OpenAI in this role: and she transitioned from software engineer to AI Engineer at her previous company, Coda. Before joining OpenAI, she interviewed with 46 different AI startups (!!)

Lol, you know you're getting old when your godchildren are grown up enough to have ewallets and it's easier to send their birthday money that way.

So glad I made a note of this five months ago because I ran into this issue again today.
TIL how to find the app that stops my Macbook from sleeping:
- open Activity Monitor
- click the Energy tab
- check the "Preventing Sleep" column for "Yes"

Today's culprit:
The Firefox browser tab I had logged into Discord.

The solution:
Change permissions for that tab to "Block Audio and Video."

So much to learn, so little time. 🤯

I wish I could upload a book into my mind with one click . . . Preferably without having to first be a robot or live in the Matrix.
