Gov. Youngkin commuted the prison sentence of a former Fairfax County officer who shot and killed an unarmed shoplifting suspect.

Wesley Shifflett was sentenced to 3 years in prison after the death of Timothy Johnson outside Tysons Corner Center. He was convicted of reckless handling of a firearm.

The deadline to avoid a shutdown is Dec. 20, @nbcnews.com reports. Both parties need to reach an agreement on a full funding deal -- or, the only realistic solution at this point, a continuing resolution (CR) that would temporarily fund the government into early 2025.

The CR text was released Tues.
