What if - & I’m just spitballing here - we invested large sums of federal money into a set of world-class research institutions all around the country, which could do pathbreaking science & train future generations of scientists & teach our children about the wonders of science? 🤔🤷♂️

Another @biorxiv-evobio.bsky.social preprint of work led by @wenfeixian.bsky.social. With our Lausanne colleagues, we revisit the Napoleon Oak. An earlier long-read genome had revealed a relatively low number of somatic mutations (www.nature.com/articles/s41...).

NIH appears to have canceled/postponed all of its study sections—the independent review panels that approve federal grants for health research.
