It's always the silliest mistakes, isn't it? I've spent so much time trying to figure out why I wasn't able to receive frames and it turned out I forgot to pull the standby pin low. The weirdest thing was it worked perfectly at 250kbps in listen-only mode.

Worrying if you don't make your electronics in mainland China. Nexperia not only produces power chips as the article mentions but a good chunk of the global supply of discrete semiconductors as well (transistors, diodes and logic ICs), which are present in every piece of electronic equipment.
Nexperia seizure: chip supply threatened amid fight over unit of China’s Wingtech – SCMP: ‘One of the closely watched assets owned by Nexperia is its Dongguan packaging and testing plant, which accounts for 70 per cent of its final product shipments.’
Chip supply at risk in fight over Nexperia, unit of China’s Wingtech
Clients including Apple and Tesla may have to find other suppliers as unit caught in crossfire between Dutch, Chinese officials.

Reading a book for the kids when... No, that's not... Why do you think we need rockets to go to space?
October 9, 2025 at 1:28 AM
I ordered this light on Taobao for the kids thinking it would be battery powered or powered from a USB supply. This is what I got. Not only the plug is the wrong type but I doubt there is any kind of protection in that flimsy little white box.

Morning update: typhoon very strong.
September 24, 2025 at 1:05 AM
I don't think I've ever seen HKO describing seas as "phenomenal". It really shows how exceptionally strong this typhoon will be tomorrow.

Old Soviet joke for today:

A man walks into a newsstand every day, looks around, and leaves.

After a long time of this, the owner says “Can I help you find something?”

“I’m looking for the obituaries.”

“The obituaries are in the back of the newspaper, comrade.”

“Not the one I’m looking for.”

Look what they did to Notepad. Shut the fuck up. This is Notepad. You are not welcome here. Oh yeah "Let me use Copilot for Notepad". "I'm going to sign into my account for Notepad". What the fuck are you talking about. It's Notepad.

So I'm looking for the cheapest 1-channel DAC available. I could just use an R-2R ladder but I want something small and with an interface that uses very few IOs (I2C or SPI). I've found the DAC53401 for less than $0.40/1k so far. Any cheaper options?

Whoa.

That's a sprite, an elusive, high-altitude electrical discharge from a thundercloud photographed by NASA astronaut Nichole Ayers from the ISS earlier today.

With reported sightings going back more than a century, this phenomenon was first photographed in 1989.
