Shocking how academic staff in Leicester are being scapegoated for management failures. Human Geography at Leicester has always been an exceptional department. Any decent university management would be fighting to keep them.
Human Geography at Leicester is facing closure. Staff contracts are to end in June 2026; students are to be relocated to other universities, or taught out by a maximum of two (!) teaching-only staff. Other departments and subjects are facing closure, too. Please join the demo!

Solidarity with the brilliant geographers and all other staff at risk in Leicester and elsewhere. The willful destruction of livelihoods and cultures of knowledge is shameful.
Solidarity to colleagues at Leicester Uni:

"all academic staff in the film studies and modern languages departments have been placed at risk, with "large numbers of staff" in chemistry, geography, geology & the environment (GGE) and history specialisms "uncertain if they will retain their jobs"

Look to the many faith-based groups to boost integration in inner-city, a new report advises council. Almost 50 faith-based groups play a big role in helping people navigate civic life in the north inner-city, it says – and the council should tap into them, it says.

Those who are 35+, what advice do you have for people just entering their 30s?

I spoke to Dublin Inquirer about this issue, which seems to have been going on since May.
Some prepaid commuters on Dublin’s public transport are finding they have to pay again. Their Leap Cards charged up through the TaxSaver scheme aren’t working.

A thoughtful and considered article; worth a read.
For my latest dispatch from Ireland for America Magazine, I talked to 2 bone fide legends, Sr Lena Deevy and Michael O'Sullivan, to investigate how, if you start to scratch, Irish attitudes to immigration aren't that far away from MAGAland. www.americamagazine.org/dispatches/2...
Migration and Irish identity—in the era of Trump deportations
Just about no one in Ireland would say that Irish citizens living in the U.S. are being treated as badly as immigrant residents from Latin America or Africa. But consternation is on the rise about esc...

Still recruiting!

Born in Ireland?
Parents who migrated here?
Grew up in Limerick or the Mid-West?

I'm doing a research project on second-generation identity and would love to chat with you.

Please share with anyone who might be interested - it would mean a lot 🙏

The #famine in #Gaza is entirely man-made. Responding with air drops is both unnecessary and dangerous.

The UN, including UNRWA, must be allowed to do its work so that aid can safely reach those who need it the most, including 1 million hungry children.

Let our 6,000 trucks into Gaza.

'Feminist City' by Leslie Kern is a great read: accessible, political, provocative. Ideal for showing why geography matters and, if you're in Ireland, available in public libraries around the country.
