Here goes. Anyone can quit drinking alcohol, its staying sober that's the problem. You can be sober for 30 years and then relapse. And as shitty as that is, it does not make you not strong.
Vigilance and understanding your triggers for use is an absolute key to sobriety.
Rapidly nearing 4 years sober, will hit this milestone just before Christmas. Might start a pinned thread about how I go about maintaining sobriety.
Mainly to vent, but someone might find it useful, or will be inspired to tackle some indulgence they're experiencing as a problem. *shrug*
1 and 3 are excellent ages to introduce the kids to the excellent works of the Cro-Mags and Bad Brains, right?

This is clearly a rhetorical question, the answer is yes.
As the Cro-Mags are always keen to point out: "we gotta go!"

Since I get excited about stuff I'm interested in, I should someday do a thread about Operations Uranus and (sister Op.) Mars.
Designer: "why 2 days?"

Party Official: "Something about Operation Uranus, word on the street is that the Red Army is about to do some ass-kicking near the Volga bend."

Was, idly, looking at camping cooking sets, and the pots and pans are insanely expensive, holy shit, and the quality looks like the poop.

Fellow music nerds, if one wanted to listen to streamed music in such a way that artists still god paid, but not via Spotify, which app would you recommend? I don't mind paying for a subscription. Giving money to Spotify in this day and age seems downright unethical.

Watching "How to train your dragon" with the kids, I'm the only interested party involved. Joke's on them, great film.

(I'd never seen it before)

Have had to diversify my work playlists, because not everyone likes metal and punk, have now meticulously spliced in a lot of disco revival, synthwave, 00's poppy bangers and anything 80's.

Which brings me to the point of this post: "Gloria" by Laura Branigan is a fucking sick track.

Considering watching Babylon Berlin again. There are very few arguments against doing this, as its perhaps the finest TV show ever made. Albeit incredibly bleak at times.

Busy evening at work, filling out the entire restaurant on a cold and windy wednesday is not something too regular.
Fun, though. Much better than doing nowt.

How does a late era Eastern Roman emperor say sorry?

My Apalaiologosies.

Have now reminded myself of Johnny Mnemonic, by no means a great film, but it is extremely cool and has some interesting ideas.
It als has famed punkrocker Henry Rollins in it, doing god knows what, but doing it very well.
Ah, Udo Kier has left us, a fine actor that didn't take the craft too seriously all the time. For reference: his turns as Ralfi in Johnny Mnemonic and, much more importantly, as Yuri in Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2.

Netflix or HBO or Apple should stop being cowards and just give me a multi season series covering all the famous stuff that legendary detective Ernst Gennat (1880 - 1939) got up to.

That man is endlessly fascinating.

Back when I started cooking professionally, to order produce from a wholesaler you'd either have to call them, which sucked, as you'd have to speak to each department individually, or you'd have to fill in order sheets to give to the delivery driver when they dropped off your order. Also sucked.

Terrible tidings, accidentally clicked on AI nonsense on youtube, thinking it was a teaser trailer for Nolan's upcoming Homer adaptation. The algorithm now thinks I like that kind of trash. Woe is me.

My wife has unearthed a treasure that I'd bought a long time ago. A special edition Darkthrone album, "F.O.AD.", including some nifty postcards that I fully intend to use, seasonally.

Some glorious nutter has uploaded every episode of "Sharpe" to youtube, which I'm sure is not legal, but it is a necessary service, since it's hard to find elsewhere. It's up there with my favourite bits of television, absolutely gorgeous stuff.

Well hello there, quirk of our work schedules: Both my wife and I have a day off work, and the kids are at daycare.

Time for a cup of coffee. :D

Our youngest has pooped in the bath. Disgusting. But he's delighted, so in the spirit of good parenthood: very proud of him.

I read that the Italian national team coach (football) has been complaining about how qualifying for the upcoming World Cup is unfair on European teams. Which is funny, because Europe has by far the most teams that qualify per continent.

Once you realise that the brown colour is cinnamon, you'll come around to the fact that this is apple/cinnamon sorbet, which is damn tasty, and seasonal. Also, we make all our ice-cream in house, as evidenced by this.

The racket you're hearing is the dishwashing machine. :p

Today is the day that I will take some pics of the dishes we serve at work.
Disclaimer: I will probably forget, because we tend to be busy. :P.

Fascinated to learn from Indy Neidell's series on the Korean War that censorship on the U.N. side of things was so strict that Western reporters got their scoops from English speaking reporters that operated from the North Korean/Chinese side of the conflict. (Yes, really.)

Amazing day today, my wife signed us and the kids up for a weekly lesson/workshop for kids aged 1-3 to playfully discover music and dance, it was incredible. Kids loved it, too.

Thundering headlong towards 5 full years of sobriety, less than 2 months to go!
