Writing an article on German tax legislation and FDI, and it's a new experience, and one that makes me sad compared to most of my other research: I can so easily add biographical information because of 20+ actors, every single person in the story is a man and has his own Wikipedia article.

This week my 7 yo will have his first lock down drill in a US elementary school. He has never heard of attacks on schools of any kind until now. How would one best talk about this beforehand, to prepare?

Sometimes the impossible becomes possible ✓
My project "Manufacturing Modernity in Africa" (MAGIC) just won a €1.5 million ERC Starting Grant - Europe's most competitive early-career research funding.
I'll be investigating Bata shoe factories in Kenya, Malawi & Zimbabwe from the 1940s to 2000s.

Spoke on “Flying White Elephants?” at a civil aviation history conference earlier this year, inside Lufthansa HQ, with runway views & the hum of business around us. African airlines after independence weren’t just prestige projects - some reshaped economies & global aviation deals.

I am currently looking for a (remote) research assistant for about 60 h. of work in total (literature research, fact-checking, and data analysis—Excel skills required). A background in 20th-century international history, technology, and transport would be ideal. Please share with interested people!

Books designed to be read only by human eyes are different from books designed to be read by machines, which is why Google will tell you that the phrase “shake my booty” can be found in an 1863 English translation of Don Quixote.
