Do what I can to change academia from the inside, earth scientist working on Arctic coastal environmental change and palaeoclimate. HoD and assoc.prof. at Unis- Svalbard. Parent. Equity, diversity and decolonize science. Every day is a new balancing act.
It went so well. Amazing students explaining how they’ve been involved in the research project on palaeoclimate data from coal through their BSc course at #UniSvalbard this spring to the King and Queen of Norway. And we ended the day with a reception at the Royal yacht!

Ready for the king of Norway. Two students will present our work on coal as a palaeoclimate archive to the King today.

Summer in the Arctic. And delicious cake from a student, who finished her internship on the carbon cycle in an arctic delta with me.

Coal mining was the heart and soul of Longyearbyen and now it’s coming to an end. The last mine closes in a couple of weeks. But my daughter got to perform at the open day yesterday for people from town for a last visit to the mine #gruve7remix

Outreach projects as part of the assessment for the course “Arctic climate change - from the past to the future” at #UnisSvalbard. What a day. I’ve rarely had so much fun in an exam situation. For example this movie created by students. youtu.be/GBITtLhvQwc?...

Lucky me, who’s one of the scientist protagonists in an amazing childrens book about research in the Arctic. Yesterday we celebrated the first books coming from printing with author Maria Rossi.

Great article that explain many of the subtle and not so subtle reasons why women are not moving forward in academia at the same rate of men.
“In 2011, I completed a PhD in...chemistry, with 10 papers to my name, five as first author. You might assume that was a foundation for academic success. Instead, I left #academia, becoming another statistic in the leaky pipeline, where 39% of chem PhD grads are women, yet only 9% are professors.”
