Eastern subpolar North Atlantic is a key region for ventilation. 👌🏻
The subpolar North Atlantic is one region where the deep ocean is in direct contact with the atmosphere, making it a key site for ocean ventilation. Koelling et al., use a new data product to study North Atlantic ventilation in unprecedented detail 🌊

Unexpected decline in the ocean carbon sink under record-high sea surface temperatures in 2023 - Nature Climate Change
The ocean carbon sink strengthened in previous warm El Niño years due to reduced CO2 outgassing in the tropics. Here the authors show that the ocean carbon sink declined in 2023 despite record-high se...

Meltwater strongly perturbs the carbonate system in the ocean. Henson et al., use new data from Greenland to show that, as well as driving an inorganic CO2 sink, the diluting influence of meltwater on alkalinity weakens the buffering capacity of these regions 🌊
