Starting my official #boardgames thread here! First a picture of our cabinet showing our favourites so far!
Wishlist is still full and would lead to personal bankruptcy hence thread is gonna be updated slowly!
As much as I enjoyed Ys X, if there is no upgrade path available I cannot justify double dipping there. Maybe someday later when it is cheaper.

Damn, almost 30 years ago I had my first video game crush on Nabooru and now they give me Ardi. Some things never change. I am still weak for Gerudo designs.

Even if it is "only" Sky 2nd and Proud Nordics next year, this information sky rockets the chances of Falcom releases being WW and multi platform in the future.

I call Kai 2 WW release in 2027 now.
Trails series which has surpassed a total of 9 million units sold worldwide — will see the release of its latest installment, The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky the 2nd. In addition, we plan to release Ys X -Proud NORDICS- PS5, along with several port titles.

Age of Imprisonment really is a great musou title. The gameplay is fast and fun and characters feel pretty unique!

The only complaints so far I have is that the weapon upgrade system is kinda clunky/tedious and the level design is rather generic. Something DW normally does better.

*looking at my PS5 games so far*

Oh no, I am in danger.

I guess for me and many others this could be a bigger banger than any "normal" State of Play.
State of Play Japan announced, premiering tomorrow, November 11 at 2PM PT/5PM ET

➡️ blog.playstation.com/2025/11/10/s...

The show will run for 40+ minutes and focus on games "created in Japan and across Asia" and other "exciting updates"

Gloomhaven is such an insane game. Yesterday my wife retired her first character, now got the "two mini/phoenix" one and that feeling of seeing a completely new character is so cool. And you can just keep on playing cause the difficulty curve and leveling system is so well done.

Gloomhaven is sick!

Age of Imprisonment is so good! While being a spin-off title it has so much stuff I want Dynasty Warriors to have. The character identity is great, the systems are fun to engage with - I really hope the next DW takes big inspiration from it!

Also rly enjoying the story so far!

If you are German, never ever order board games directly from Pegasus.

Ordered 3 weeks ago, paid 2 weeks ago, asked 1 week ago for an update - still nothing.

In a world dominated by online retailers you cannot do that, holy...

"Who do we give the Musou review to?"
"Lets give it to the guy that hates the genre!"
"Good call!"

This sounds like me if anyone would let me write a FPS review.
Wild opening paragraph, maybe you shouldn't be the one reviewing a Warriors game then

As a RTwP hater I will gladly play PoE1 turn based once more! It is a phenomenal game, PoE2s turn based system was great and the PoE world and lore overall is just absolutely phenomenal.

PoE is up there in my holy 4 CRPGs with Pathfinder, BG3 and DoS.
Obsidian has announced that Pillars of Eternity's upcoming turn-based combat mode will be available through a public beta on Steam and Xbox on PC from November 5 with updates rolling out to prepare for the full release: www.rpgsite.net/news/18879-p...

Sure, PC performance being abysmal is a huge problem but it is also a design issue. MH fans are so trained for "the real endgame is in the DLC" and that also reflected way too much in the end game, which is only decent now.
Monster Hunter Wilds sold 10m copies at launch, but has since struggled, with just 160k copies sold during Q2. Older Capcom titles (Rise, DMC5) outsold it during this period.

Modern publishers rely heavily on strong back-cat sales, not just launch sales.

The Pathfinder WotR intro is still so great.

You drink a beer, you punch a mannequin, then a demon lord invades the city and kills the city dragon protector. It is the definition of "that escalated quickly!"

The ending of Pokemon Legens ZA is pure cinema - at the same time absolutely horrendous gameplay wise.

Just like all recent Pokemon games the mix of: How are they allowed to sell this? Mixed with: But it is super much fun still! is a balancing act no other franchise manages.

I think Sakurai should just supervise every game ever. He is an absolute goat. Holy.

Sometimes I think about Dondoko Island and how it was one of the craziest side content/mini games ever created.

I am really looking forward to the next Yakuza.

Stranger than Heaven might play a lot less into the goofy side of RGG.

Pokemon games need to look better and they absolutely need voice acting with how much money they make

but

damn are they good at making a fun gameplay loop. They got me and the kid again.

Wrote down my thoughts about Yotei. While I think Atsu is an absolute wonderful lead I had a lot of issues with the game and just did not enjoy it as much as I wished I could

Might sound weird coming from a Trails fan - but I do believe Hades 2 has too much flavour text. There is so much dialog that is just... there? It feels like quality over quantity would be better here. Especially since the story line itself feels rather dry.

Gameplay wise it is great though.

I am still so impressed with Gloomhaven. Every scenario feels so well done. It is always close, it (almost) never feels unfair and it is always fun to play. The leveling system is so good. Cannot wait to unlock more classes.

This really is the board game of all time, wow.
October 18, 2025 at 8:50 PM
Today I cleared a hard room in Gloomhaven, was happy, opened the chest - and it had 3 damage and poison inside. I died.

My son laughed, my wife laughed. It was a wonderful scenario.

I will always send the others to open chests now.

Got Gloomhaven (the boardgame) and wow, that is one insane experience. 10kg box, so much content, so much quality stuff. Absolutely worth the price. And so much fun to play!

If you are looking for a video gamey board game CRPG it totally is this one.

Sucker Punch really though of a single riddle and repeated it 100x - damn.

Yotei suffers a lot from open world slop, which is somehow worse than it was in Tsushima where it felt fresh at least.

Also doesnt help that the weapon system is a bit better, but still just rock/paper/scissor
October 11, 2025 at 7:10 PM
Playing Hades 2 and Yotei it is extremely interesting to see how "2nd game" impacts both games differently on a negative/positive scale.

Game design is a hell of a monster to tackle, really wild how experiences vary here.
October 9, 2025 at 8:58 PM
Can only repeat myself: this is the worst fucking mini game ever created.

Your 1 win condition is "do not make a single mistake" cause if you make a mistake the NPC will just win combined with the dogshit trigger controls. This one is such a huge tilter in a great game otherwise.
I hate the fucking coin flick game in Yotei.
