Today, a representative of Mams4TransNI, in collaboration with Nest and Causeway Pride, met with Baroness Hilary Cass, author of the Cass Review, as part of the ongoing review into gender identity services in Northern Ireland. Our representative attended in a personal capacity as a previous member of the Liaison Panel into Gender Services, ensuring that the insights and lived experiences of families and young people in Northern Ireland were meaningfully represented during the discussion. We are grateful for the opportunity to engage in this important process and for the continued dedication of the other former panel members who also attended and indeed all those who advocate for better, safer, and more accessible services for trans and gender-diverse people We will issue a further and more detailed statement once we have had time to reflect on the discussions, review the information shared during the meeting, and update the families who so bravely entrusted us with their personal stories to inform our advocacy.

We love this! Parents have one job, to love their children unconditionally, we know too well there are many in the trans community who have been turned away from their families, so any parent willing to stand up be loud and proud have our total support!

Glasgow Gender Clinic now has a waiting time of 224 years. The average across the UK is now 25 years.

This segregated system isn’t working and is wasting millions. The NHS has been told time and again - informed consent now.

🚨 NEW | Anti-trans hate group "Green Women's Declaration" have been formally barred from Green Party conference.

The group sought a stall at conference, but their bid was denied by the party. Green leader Zack Polanski recently affirmed the party's support for trans rights.

I sat in a meeting with the Justice minister @naomilong.bsky.social just a week ago, she said it was abuse to deadname and use the wrong pronouns etc yet here we are learning it's to be the norm for kids in our schools and it's silence from her and her party! Utterly abhorrent, you're useless 🤬

Schools are collapsing. Teachers are stretched to breaking point. Special Educational Needs provision is being gutted, leaving some of the most vulnerable children abandoned by a system that has already failed them. And the DUP? Their priority isn’t fixing any of this it’s waging a toilet-based culture war. Now teachers already exhausted, already underpaid, already stretched are now being told they can’t even use the correct pronouns for trans kids. They’re being ordered to deny children’s identities, to harm them in the very classrooms where they should be safe. It is nothing less than state-mandated bullying. This is not policy. This is cruelty. Trans children are being used as disposable political pawns, targeted not because anyone cares about their wellbeing, but because some politicians see them as an easy enemy to demonise. And where are the rest of the Executive parties? Where is Sinn Féin, so keen to call themselves champions of equality? Where is the SDLP, always ready with flowery words but silent when it really counts? Where is Alliance the so-called “progressive party” that claims to stand for inclusion, yet falls silent when trans kids are under attack? Silence in the face of cruelty is complicity. And every day they say nothing, they side with the DUP. It is ideology over care. It is hate dressed up as law. It is distraction politics of the worst kind whipping up fear about toilets and pronouns while real children go without the education, resources, and protection they need to survive. We see it. We will not let it pass unchallenged. We stand with trans kids. Their safety, their dignity, and their wellbeing come before the cowardice of politicians, before the cheap stunts of the DUP, before the silence of so-called progressives. Always. And if the DUP think they can build a future on scapegoating children, and if the rest of the Executive think they can wash their hands of it? They’re wrong. That future will crumble and history will remember …

Paul Givan, writing in today’s News Letter, says he has asked the EA to review its policy in light of the UK Supreme Court trans ruling in April. Mr Givan says that his education department has tried to “ensure fairness, safety and respect for all children in schools” by affirming that “references to ‘boys’ and ‘girls’ are to be understood as biological males and females”. He writes: “Pupils should use changing rooms and toilet facilities designated for their biological sex and that boys and girls should not share these spaces when in use. In competitive sports, mixed-sex participation is only permitted where governing bodies [explicitly allow it].” The EA 2019 guidance had said that “staff should give a transgender pupil access to toilets which match their gender identity”. Mr Givan describes as “unfortunate” the Equality Commission for Northern Ireland bid to seek High Court clarity on how the Supreme Court ruling interacts with the Windsor Framework’s Article 2.
