Carden is on a weird journey. Liverpools universities contribute millions and millions to the city’s economy. They are partners in almost every major project. Their students get involved in every major event. To say they have no value is either to be wilfully ignorant or manipulatively so.
As ever, the loudest voices calling for the collapse of universities, presumably in the post-92 sector, benefitted from privileged educations.

If you’re coming to Liverpool for one of the many reasons people are coming this weekend can I just say download everything you need to your phone. There is no data connection anywhere in town on a good day. 1.2m are expected in the city centre on Monday alone. You will not be able to use Maps

It is worth noting that the arts doesn’t just support happiness and wellbeing but also generates around £34bn for the economy and supports tens of thousands of jobs. It is a major industry that isn’t invested in properly or taken seriously

Businesses are furious about it, but their costs have increased by 200/300% so what do they do? I’m not talking massive international huge profit companies, but SMEs, independents, the ones that managed to not get destroyed by Covid. There is nothing to cut and customers can’t afford higher prices

This this this this this. Part time work, flexible hours - NI increases mean these are the first jobs that are going in Q2. Those who are looking for entry, getting back to work, wanting to increase their income but having household demands, all of their entries to work are evaporating
Government wants more people to return to work, but at the same time, is consciously eliminating the jobs that offer the best paths back into work:
Government’s employment reforms clash with its welfare plans
Jobs market policies could threaten the part-time vacancies that ease people back into work
