The @BellevueSchools Staff Appreciation event was fabulous as usual & while I really enjoyed the food, drinks, & prizes, hands down the most meaningful part was that the Director of Personnel greeted me by name, with details about my courseload. Dr. Smith, you're amazing! 🤩

Do not underestimate the power of squishy toys and stickers for HS students. I was hesitant, doubtful even, but the absolute joy I've seen in these teenagers this year has been pure and I have zero regrets.

I gave a student #hope today. She's a senior & asked about her credits to graduate. She's got 36, needs 46 total & is attempting to get 16 more this school year. She thought she was further behind. We're gonna work together & she is SO gonna graduate & I can't wait! #IBelieve

A student I met through the credit recovery class I teach (in addition to my primary subject area) signed up to take Latin so they could be in class with me again. A student I met in my advisory class did the same thing. Tell me why I still tell myself I'm not a good educator.

@AirCanada is *the worst.* 76 passengers stuck on a plane of a cancelled flight - at least the flight staff is kind and helpful! Additionally, Toronto International Airport needs to get itself together! 👎👎👎

In a convo with a dear one today, I got lumped in (in the best way!) with @adottree and @ArmbrusterPhys and can I say that was just the most flattering compliment I've had in a while?! Those two are #teachergoals and I am honored to be even considered close to their level!

Today I baked homemade cinnamon rolls. I haven't had "it" in me to bake since at least summer 2020. Thank you @RippeJeff and @BellevueSchools for the time to recharge my Me so I can get back to being my best self. #grateful #teamBPS #bestdistrictever

I read two whole books this long weekend. Two. I'm grateful for the snow day Friday and the relaxation this weekend and peace of mind granted to me through the mask mandate. Thankful for the district I work for. @RippeJeff and @BellevueSchools, thank you.

A4: that seriously made me feel like part of a real community and maybe *gasp* a little bit like a celebrity or like I contribute something. Overall, it was a reminder that I'm not alone. But also I like that there's no pressure to join in when you just can't #langchat

A3: obviously kids don't learn from teachers they don't like but I also feel like they don't learn in spaces they don't feel at home in. Give them a space, make them feel at home, and then they'll move mountains for you #langchat

A2: slow the eff down. Go about twice as slow as you think you need to. Apparently I normally operate on "caffeinated spider monkey" speed but slowing down helps so so much with relationship building, SLA, SEL, etc. #langchat
