*cough* If you're gift shopping for anyone interested in how the world works, do consider these. Storm in a Teacup is all about the physics of everyday life and Blue Machine is all about how the ocean works - the water itself, which is the biggest story on Earth. Share the joy of nature & science!

Think of the $ invested in #AI & other venture capital-backed efforts to “revolutionize humanity.” Now think about how much innovation has come from humans themselves & how many die of starvation alone each year (~9 m).

~$93B/yr needed to end 🌎hunger. #Priorities

Ending world hunger costs less than 1% of military spending
Ending hunger by 2030 would cost just $93 billion a year — well under one per cent of the $21.9 trillion spent on military budgets over the past decade, according to UN estimates.

This is Uni. She has ridden to work with her human every day in their bike basket for the last seven years. Has been offered many other forms of transportation, but refuses them all in favor of the Honey Baked Ham Express. 14/10 #SeniorPupSaturday (IG: unihalo)

Watching #JayKelly on Netflix. It wants to be Frederico Fellini’s 8 and 1/2 but it lacks the movie magic.

My first viral (internet) photo. I noticed the flowers sitting on the rock just left of center. I created this long exposure image, the wind ruffling the plastic around the flowers, hence the blur. 1/4

Its Krampusnacht! The night when a horned, half-goat, half-demon creature; the evil twin of Santa, emerges to punish naughty children. This dark European tradition is a real-world cultural event celebrated (??) with parades where people dress up in terrifying costumes. #horrorcommunity #folklore

Duh!
“Get insurance companies out of it. We don’t need a middle man. They’re like the mob, taking their cut off the top.”

@RepTimBurchett unwittingly makes the case for MEDICARE FOR ALL as Republicans flail for a way to deal with skyrocketing health care costs.

Data centres are energy hungry but what if we could use their waste heat to heat our homes?

That's exactly what happens in places like Finland: Cities are tapping the vast amounts of waste heat generated by data centres, and feeding it into district-heating networks.
