This is an enforced disappearance under international law (1. Detention; 2. By state agents; 3. Hiding the fate or whereabouts of the individuals). DHS has a long history of forcibly disappearing migrants as a border management strategy, but it has gotten considerably worse under this administration
Article 2 of the International Convention on the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance defines enforced disappearance as: “For the purposes of this Convention, "enforced disappearance" is considered to be the arrest, detention, abduction or any other form of deprivation of liberty by agents of the State or by persons or groups of persons acting with the authorization, support or acquiescence of the State, followed by a refusal to acknowledge the deprivation of liberty or by concealment of the fate or whereabouts of the disappeared person, which place such a person outside the protection of the law.” Article 2 of the Inter-American Convention on Forced Disappearance of Persons defines enforced disappearance as: “For the purposes of this Convention, forced disappearance is considered to be the act of depriving a person or persons of his or their freedom, in whatever way, perpetrated by agents of the state or by persons or groups of persons acting with the authorization, support, or acquiescence of the state, followed by an absence of information or a refusal to acknowledge that deprivation of freedom or to give information on the whereabouts of that person, thereby impeding his or her recourse to the applicable legal remedies and procedural guarantees.”

Miss Rachel Instagram post: I posted a photo of a severely malnourished child in Gaza. Some have tried to discredit the horror by the new information that he has pre-existing health problems. Let's be clear: Starving a child who is sick doesn't make it less horrific. They are being denied healthy food and medical care. Another girl named Rahaf, 12, who also had medical conditions and was severely malnourished is doing so much better now that she was evacuated. Fadi, who has CF, also gained weight when evacuated treated. Every child deserves to be fed, loved, and cared for. No exceptions.
