I was pleased to see @olivia.science and @irisvanrooij.bsky.social mentioned in this NYT article (gift link below). But I wish there was more analysis. Boasts and critiques re: #GenAI were strewn throughout, requiring readers to sort the concerns from the hyperbole. For example… (1/2)

A great thread about working in academia in the UK, which mostly applies to the US too. Faculty are a university's *product* but are usually treated by management as labor, which would ideally be replaced with something cheaper and more manageable.
the longer I work in HE, the more I realise the people at the top really don't value academic staff. being treated as if you are essentially superfluous to the university that only exists because of your work is pretty galling. but also: we're constantly being told we don't work in the 'real world'.
